Dear beloved Associates and Benefactors,Time is passing quickly by and our glorious 31 days of Sacred Liturgies for the Month of Mary is coming to an end. We are profoundly grateful for your support, prayers and concern. There are many demands on our time and so many souls to serve. We are not fatigued but innervated to do all the more in order to reach out to distant areas of our country to those who are in great distress.

Now they are receptive, now they are ready! Your parcels and stipends are reaching us in good order. They are a great strength to the Church in Ukraine!

God has but one ideal and this ideal is Jesus! The Holy Spirit loves Him and that Love is His being, because the Holy Spirit is nothing but Love, the personal Love of the Father and the Word. The Holy Spirit enters into the depths of our soul, penetrates its innermost recesses and takes up His permanent dwelling there, to produce His magnificent work. Do you not know, you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells within you? Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, you cannot become Christ. Grace and Charity are the life of our souls. The Holy Spirit does not give Himself to us without pouring charity into our hearts. The basic reason God dwells in us, why He remains in us and we in Him, is Love. The soul’s delightful Guest does not remain idle in us, but He begins immediately to influence His transformation. He pours out the Gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Knowledge, Piety, Fortitude and Fear of the Lord. The Holy Spirit teaches everything by communicating a new light, a Divine Light, to the intelligence itself. He takes our faculties and moves, and guides them so gently that they continue to be spontaneous and free. The perfection of a soul is measured by its docility to the movement of the Spirit, by the promptitude and fidelity with which its strings produce the divine notes of the Song of Love.

The Holy Spirit brings to our souls the fruitfulness of the Father and binds us lovingly to the Son. He is truly the Soul of our soul and the Life of our life. Daily, we are keeping your loved ones in our prayers, the sick, those who are dying and those who, like us, are undergoing great persecution. Christ again is crucified! Let us stand with Mary Immaculate at the Foot of the Cross, Her faithful and devoted children!

I impart to you all, my priestly blessing:

+ In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Dear Apostle of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,Thank you for your generous and timely donation which is deeply appreciated. It will be put to excellent use in sending out beautiful parcels of Our Blessed Mother’s Sacramentals and prayers this month which is dedicated to Her honor. The cries from the missions are deafening as their sufferings multiply! Just imagine the glory in Heaven when one of Mary’s children arrives safely Home through the hope, joy and confidence placed in their hearts by your gifts and your prayers. May Mary be proud of Her Children!

The better we understand the work of the Holy Ghost in the Church and in the hearts of the faithful, the more entirely we are brought under the gracious influence of the Lord and Giver of Life Who draws all souls to Himself. The world of faith is His Kingdom. To Him, we owe all our supernatural being, from its first beginning to its glorious end. Deep should be our gratitude and ardent our devotion to this Blessed Spirit. We speak of Grace but we forget the divine Person whose presence and power confers Grace on us. The Holy Ghost is the Fountain of all divine Truth. He is the sole Source of our sanctification and the Author of our supernatural life. We owe Him love, adoration and obedience.

Man, in the pride of his intellect, has grown bold and rejected the Catholic Church and denied God as the First Cause. Materialism measures all things by sense, depresses the instincts of the spiritual life and draws the heart away from the supernatural world. There can be no greater degradation than the denial of man’s spirituality and immortality. He that rejects the Holy Spirit, shall find no comfort. He who grieves Him shall be eternally lost. He is our all abiding strength, a consuming fire, to burn away our dross and lighten our darkness. How happy for us to bear our Paraclete within our soul and how sacred the heart in which He dwells!

I remain, one with you in the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Patti Melvin
PATTI MELVIN, Director ULRA

Let us pray for one another!

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator come,
From Thy bright celestial throne!
Come, take possession of our souls,
And make them all Thine own.

Dear Patti Melvin, Director – ULRA,

Yesterday I got a parcel of booklets and Rosaries, Scapulars, Miraculous Medals, St. Philomena cord and oil packets. I appreciate it very much. It is what we are looking for. Many priests came to me for more Rosaries. I also shared it with them.

Since it is the month of Mary, our people go house to house for Family Rosary. We gather people in front of Our Lady’s Grotto for praying the Rosary. After reciting the Rosary, they receive the blessings of the Eucharist through benediction.

Thank you and our benefactors for your generous donation. With your support, we are able to reach out and introduce souls to the Living Rosary. Let’s go to Jesus through Our Mother Mary. God bless you all!

FATHER MATEO ON THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS (continued)

THE DIVINE MAJESTY OF THE MASS

In the celebration of the Mass, there is an action performed by the celebrant, which shows the majesty of the Sacrifice and admirably sums up the entire ideal of the glorification of the Father and the Trinity by the adorable High Priest and Mediator. At this sublime moment, the nine Choirs of Angels, the whole Assembly of Heaven and Purgatory seem to surround the celebrant, drinking in his words and holding their breath at the divine majesty of his gestures.

Shortly after the Consecration, the priest takes the divine Host into his hands, and traces a cross over the Precious Blood in the Chalice saying, “Through Him, with Him and in Him, be to Thee, God the Father, in union with the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory.” At this, he lifts the Chalice and Host together towards Heaven.

Let us stress the grandeur of this divine action. St. Paul himself could not have found words, coming down from the third heaven as he did, capable of expressing the depth of this liturgical formula, so rich is it in meaning.

Through Him, the God-Man of Bethlehem, Tabor and Calvary, really present in the hands of the priest as He was in the arms of His Mother.

With Him, the God-Man crucified, dead and alive again. He who has mounted to Heaven and sits at the right Hand of the Father, to whom the Father has given all power in heaven and on earth.

In Him, the God-Man, by whom and for whom everything has been created; who has been constituted
immortal King, and the Judge who will come in the clouds of heaven to pass sentence on the living and the dead.

Through Him, with Him and in Him, may there be infinite glory to the august and adorable Trinity.

Should a miraculous light come upon the celebrant disclosing to him the full meaning of his action, he would die on the spot: not from fright, but out of wonder and joy. It was the signal privilege of the Blessed Virgin to anticipate the offering made by the priest by the oblation she made of her Son to His Father at Bethlehem, in the Temple of Jerusalem and on Calvary. Can you see, now, how the Mass is the official hymn of glory, the only one worthy of the august Trinity?

In this hymn, there is a stanza which Christ Himself taught the Apostles. He sings it at the Altar through the mouth of His Church. “Our Father, who art in heaven… Father, hallowed be Thy name! Father, Thy kingdom come!… Father, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Just think of it! The One who is saying this prayer is none other than the Incarnate Word, the Son of God and the Son of Mary, who, at the Altar, sings the glory of His Father and our Father. The creation of the universe out of nothing is but a tiny spark of glory compared to the glory rendered at the Altar to the Three Persons of the Blessed Trinity by Jesus Christ the High Priest. Keeping our eyes and hearts fixed on the Golgotha of the Altar, let us make a bold and imaginative supposition, even as our
Lord did when He painted the incomparable pictures of His sermons and parables.

FATHER MATEO ON THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS (continued)

DIVINE ADORATION, EXPIATION, THANKSGIVING AND SUPPLICATION

What is the Church’s definition of the Mass? The Holy Sacrifice is the adoration of Christ Jesus. The God-Man gives the same praise to the Father and the Trinity on the Altar that He gave them by His death on Calvary. The Son of God, Priest and Victim, adores God His Father. His adoration is divine!

Fundamentally, the Holy Sacrifice is the perfect expiation which Jesus Christ the God-Man offers to His Father, gravely offended by the criminal rebellion of sin. Thus, He Who is the Lamb without spot, is offered from the rising of the sun to the going down thereof, and He offers His own Precious Blood as a Holocaust of propitiation for our countless sins and to save sinners. His expiation is divine.

What would be a theological consideration of the Mass? The Holy Sacrifice is the Eucharist, that is, the act of thanksgiving which Christ Jesus the God-Man makes to His Father in the name of ungrateful mankind. Without this supreme act of thanksgiving, our black ingratitude would call down upon us the wrath of Heaven. We have so many spiritual and temporal blessings to be thankful for:

1. The waters of Baptism,

2. The Baptism of Blood on Calvary,

3. The Baptism of fire in the cenacle on Pentecost,

4. Our adoption as children of the Father.

5. For the oceans of Grace that flow from the Sacraments!

6. For the Church, the ark of salvation, and in her the rock of Peter, the Roman Pontiff.

7. For the divine motherhood and universal mediation of Mary; for all her other privileges, which are so many graces given to us.

8. For the gift of gifts, the Eucharistic Sacrifice and the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which will endure until the end of time. “He loved them until the end” (Jn. 1 3:1 ).His thanksgiving is divine.

What other unusual prodigy is there on the Altar? The Holy Sacrifice is the impetration (supplication) prayer of Christ Jesus, the God-Man. Completely aware of our moral poverty, He asks the Father, with wisdom and mercy, for a shower of graces for us. He alone knows our needs; He alone can obtain them for us. He has said, “Father… thou hearest Me always”. (Jn. 1 1 :42).

This is a continuance of His role of advocate. He sends up a never-ending cry for us to the throne of the Most High. In a greater way than Moses, Jesus Christ at the Altar raises His pleading, pierced hands to protect us from the rigours of divine justice. The blessings He calls down upon us far surpass our sins. His impetration is divine.

There is no better way to sum up these reflections than to quote the definition of the Holy Sacrifice given by His Holiness, Pope Pius XII: “The Eucharistic Sacrifice of its very nature is the unbloody immolation of the divine Victim, which is made manifest in a mystical manner by the separation of the Sacred Species and by their oblation to the eternal Father. Holy Communion pertains to the integrity of the Mass, and to the partaking of the august Sacrament; but while it is obligatory for the priest who says the Mass, it is only something earnestly recommended to the faithful.“

Let us stop for a brief and spirited comment on these thoughts. We will share the tasty crumbs of this doctrinal bread. May none of them be lost. Take them and digest them with love.

The voice of Christ the Priest and Mediator, adoring, expiating, giving thanks and petitioning at the Altar, is the voice of the Catholic Church. The Mass is the official, social and public homage made by redeemed humanity, adoring, praising and blessing One God in three adorable Persons through the wounds of Christ its mediator, on the Altar. That is why one Mass gives more glory to God than all the miracles, than all the praises of angels and saints in the heavenly court. At the Altar, it is a God Who adores and praises God with an infinite glory.

Thus, the Mass is divine homage, at once a Sacrifice and a public prayer. It is not a private devotion, like the visits we make to the Blessed Sacrament, the Way of the Cross or the Rosary. It is the cry of the Church, of the Christian family which suffers exile and longs for Heaven.

Dear Patti,I received the lists of names of the Scapular Confraternity with your envelope and stipend for March-April novena of Masses. I thank you! Be assured of my prayers for Emma as he continues to face terrible conditions where Christians are much persecuted.

I met Joseph Roche, India Animator, at St. Peter’s Church where their group celebrated the Holy Mass. I hope that he would send you some pictures. He told me that his sister was dying and she got well. She is now living in a nursing home. I am delighted that the Indian lady, Maria Rose, also got better after I celebrated Mass at the Tomb of Our Lord for her intention. God is continuously working miracles in the lives of the people who pray.

Prayerful best wishes,

Dear Sister Patti Melvin,

I was invited by Fr. Anwar Lazur of Sheikhupra Parish and Fr. Younas of Shorkot Cantonment respectively. We had to go to different places and so we left early in the morning at 6 a.m. for Sheikhupra by bike. We were there at about 8.30 a.m. Fr. Anwar Lazar welcomed us and, after Mass, I was given time to explain about the aim of Living Rosary. Then we signed up new members and distributed the Decade cards, Rosaries and other devotional items to the members. We left at 11 a.m. as we had planned to be in Faisalabad by 2 p.m. to visit Fr. Younas.

The bike chain broke while we were very near Faisalabad and it took time to repair. We parked our bike at the Railway station parking and left for Shorkot by bus. We hardly left Faisalabad when the police stopped the bus and took it to police station. We could not do anything except to wait and see. The new bus came and we were asked to board it. We reached Shorkot at 7.30 p.m. but the bus dropped us at a different place, because the area was not known to us. We again took a conveyance and traveled 20 more kilometers. Anyway, we were late but Fr. Younas and the people were waiting for us. Again, I explained about the aim of Living Rosary, signed up new members and then distributed the Decade cards and all the devotional items. There is a Rosary group also at Shorkot who wanted to join the Living Rosary. As they did not have a name for their group, they named it: St. Philomena Rosary Group. Fr. Younas requested me to put a sign board for the Living Rosary in the church. He said the church is on the G.T. Road and, if we put we put up this board, it will be a good sign for promoting the Living Rosary.

We left Faisalabad at 12.30 midnight and reached home at 2.30 a.m. It was really a long journey. Due to prolonged sitting, I have small boils on my back which are painful. Thank you for your love and support. God bless you all!

FATHER MATEO ON THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS (continued)What do the catechism and Sacred Theology teach us of the Holy Sacrifice? But, before beginning the development of this beautiful subject, let me make this extremely important remark.

LIGHT OF THE MIND AND FIRE OF THE SOUL

In this consideration, an effort will be made to enlighten the mind and enkindle the heart. By this, I mean that a bright light will be brought to bear on the subject so that a deep and supernatural conviction will be generated concerning the Mystery of our Altars, for simple faith, without understanding, is not enough in our days.

In addition to this light, it is of greater importance that there be a burning love for Jesus Christ in your souls. There are books enough which give light without warmth, and so may the Heart of Jesus enliven my thoughts and my pen, that I may write with the fire of love.

Yes, I want to set my readers on fire. It would make me quite happy, were my readers to say, as did a student to a certain priest: “Father, your books set my soul on fire; your style moves me to tears, and my hands burn as they turn your pages. How can you possibly write with such a fiery pen?”

Why should it be impossible to combine in perfect harmony, doctrine and unction, sound reasoning and great love? Why do we separate the head from the heart when we discuss the things of God? Why this strange anomaly? Certainly, we must be clear. Clarity is excellent and indispensable. But, at the same time, we should aim at edification and kindling the fire of love. We have an excellent example of this in the Gospel, which is at once a sun that gives light and a sun which gives life with the warmth of charity. “I am the light of the world,” says the Master, “and what will I, but that it be kindled?” (Jn. 8:12). And He adds, “I am come to cast fire on the earth” (Luke 1 2:49), “Come to me, all of you” (Matt. 11:28).

Not for all the world would I write a mere skeleton of a book, devoid of a soul of love. And why? Is it not true that the Love of God is the apex and substance of genuine theology? Never forget that the genius who wrote the incomparable Summa, was the same who composed the masterpiece, the Mass of Corpus Christi. It is not the marvellous intellect of St. Thomas Aquinas that I envy, but his burning priestly heart, for I am a priest as he was a priest.

This is the practice of the Church in her simple yet beautiful prayer to the Holy Spirit: “enlighten my mind,” “enkindle my heart”. The Church asks for light that cuts the way to grace and love, to complete its action and make it efficacious.

One 25th of March, the Holy Spirit, in fitting a body for the Word of God in the virginal womb of Mary, consecrated this humanity High Priest for the Glory of the Trinity and constituted Him a Victim for the Redemption of Adam and his posterity. The Church expresses this Mystery thus, in the collect of the beautiful Mass of the Priesthood of Jesus Christ: “O God, Who for the glory of Thy majesty and the redemption of the human race, has constituted Thine only-begotten Son, Eternal High Priest…”

In the Incarnation, the Son of God became Son of Man, and as such was possible, that is, capable of suffering, of being in agony, of dying. He who was immortality and life became subject to death. In taking to Himself human flesh, the Word was fulfilling the Will of His Father, and subjecting Himself to death. He came into the world as Messiah and Saviour: “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). His coming was primarily directed to the end that He might be a holocaust of infinite worth in the supreme Sacrifice of the New Covenant.

How impressive and overwhelming it is to consider that, while He could have saved us on Mt. Tabor, shining with glory and bliss, out of love He chose the folly and ignominy of the Cross. Now, let us begin with joyful hearts. Grant that by this meditation, souls may find themselves captivated by the august Mystery we are treating. Now, more than ever, may the Holy Spirit be with me!

ST. PHILOMENA’S YOUTH FOR PURITY Campaign and the Establishment of The CHILDREN OF MARY MovementIn an effort to promote purity and innocence among the youth and to enlist them in the cause of Christ, the Universal Living Rosary Association and the Archconfraternity of St. Philomena have joined together to promote the St. Philomena’s Youth for Purity Program. In every fight, an ally is needed and the Church has proclaimed through the Sovereign Pontiffs that St. Philomena, the young Virgin-Martyr, is the ally needed to help the youth in their struggle for integrity of heart. The program aims to introduce St. Philomena, the power of her intercession and the integrity of her example to the youth of the 21st century. Her inspirational example is even more fitting now, in our time, as we see more and more clearly that the temptations and vices of her day have been recast in our own time – power, greed, lust and the destruction of the family unit.

The program has two parts: In the first phase, special Mini-Shrines will be sent to any youth group, school or parish that registers to take part. The Mini-Shrine will contain a statue of St. Philomena as well as literature and information concerning her life and witness. Additional devotional material will also be included that the children can take home and share with the family. A detailed curriculum is included for the group leader so that the group can ‘walk’ through the literature and presentations together. The Mini-Shrine program is designed to introduce St. Philomena as an ally in the struggle against sin and temptation – particularly sins against purity. The role of the Saints as allies and friends is highlighted. That introduction leads to a presentation on the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the necessity of true devotion to her as our model of discipleship. The example of Venerable Pauline-Marie Jaricot is presented as a wonderful model of conversion and service. The Mini-Shrine program ends with a presentation on the true presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. In this way, highlighting St. Philomena’s role as intercessor and ally, the Blessed Mother as our model of discipleship and the living presence of Our Lord in our midst, the program acts as a short retreat for the youth, focusing their attention on the power of the Faith.

The program aims to foster devotion to St. Philomena but also encourages the youth to form Children of Mary circles in their schools and parishes. Pope Pius IX declared St. Philomena to be the patroness of the Children of Mary and the Living Rosary Association, and the Archconfraternity of St. Philomena. All three have agreed to be co-sponsors of a revived ‘Sodality’ movement. Fr. Chad Partain, the chancellor of the Diocese of Alexandria in Louisiana, has been named to spearhead the program and act as the Director of the Congregation of the Children of Mary. Literature is included in each Mini-Shrine detailing the process of how to form a Children of Mary circle and what is entailed so that the work of spiritual formation may continue. Each circle, composed of at least five members, will be registered with both the Living Rosary Association and with the Archconfraternity of St. Philomena. In this way, the children enrolled will share in the spiritual blessings and indulgences attached to those organizations. Each child registered will assume responsibility for praying one decade of the Rosary each day and for invoking the aid of St. Philomena. The Children of Mary circles will meet on the first Saturday of the month to foster devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and to fulfill Our Lady’s requests for prayer and penance.

The meetings will be designed to foster the role of the congregation. The Children of Mary is a Catholic Lay Association that has, for its main purpose, the spiritual formation of its members. It takes for its model the spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort and his ideal of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. The work of the congregation is to foster holiness in the youth by giving them solid formation and peer support under the mantle of the Blessed Mother.

The sign of membership is the Miraculous Medal worn on a broad blue ribbon – the motto of the congregation is “Monstra Te Esse Matrem” ‘Show thyself a Mother’. Regular updates, meeting guides, prayers, and registration forms, click here to visitthe  Children of Mary website.

Please pray for this endeavor that we may form in our time:

“An Army of Youth Flying the Banner of Truth,
… Neath the Queen’s White and Blue!”

Marian Congress unites apostolate members at Maryhill

The Louisiana Marian Congress, sponsored by the Diocese of Alexandria, was held Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, at the Maryhill Renewal Center in Pineville. The event attracted members of several apostolate groups from Louisiana and Texas for two days of renewal and re-consecration to lives of active service.

Fr. Chad Partain, Vicar of the Diocese and pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Church, spoke on the work of the Congregation of the Children of Mary, an organization founded shortly after the apparition of the Virgin Mary to St. Catherine Laboure in France in 1830. Fr. Partain is currently director of the movement, which now includes persons of all ages.

Mrs. Patti Melvin, of Dickinson, Texas, addressed the assembly of the work of the Universal Living Rosary Association of St. Philomena, of which she is director. Founded by Ven. Pauline-Marie Jaricot in 1826 in France, the membership of the Living Rosary flourished in its early days but had declined to nearly the point of disbanding when Mrs. Melvin and husband, Richard, revived it in 1986. At present, the Living Rosary counts nearly 13 million members around the globe, with a strong presence in Third World countries.

Fr. Partain explained that persons enrolled in either the Children of Mary or the Living Rosary are automatically enrolled in the other, as well as in the Universal Archconfraternity of St. Philomena, head-quartered at the Saint’s shrine in Mugnano del Cardinale, Italy.

The third presenter at the Marian Congress, Deacon Cody Miller, of the Diocese of Lafayette, spoke on the work of the Legion of Mary. Founded by Frank Duff in 1921 in Ireland, the Legion of Mary now counts approximately 3 million members worldwide.

All speakers related how their respective apostolates have provided a means of serving God and their brothers and sisters through lives modeled on that of the Virgin Mary.

Sunday’s program included a beautiful Votive Mass in honor of the Virgin Mary, celebrated in the Latin form by Fr. Partain. All 15 decades of the Rosary were recited throughout the day: the Joyful Mysteries in the morning, the Sorrowful Mysteries at midday, and the Glorious Mysteries in the afternoon. Attendees at the Marian Congress included lay leaders in education and the media. Participants from the Diocese of Baton Rouge included Mary and Brian Costello of New Roads.

HEART OF VEN. PAULINE-MARIE JARICOT

“A House Founded on the Cross Will Fear Neither Wind, Nor Rain nor Storm.”

St. Jean-Marie Vianney

The Love of Christ was the great motivation force of Pauline’s life. After she renounced the pleasures of the world, she loudly proclaimed to those around her … “from now on, Christ will be everything for me …” and she was good to her word!

Pauline would give everything to Christ: her health, her life, her good name, her affections, her fortune... Christ would gather up her gifts … THEN, so that she would more perfectly resemble HIM: HE PUT HER ON THE CROSS!

“I have loved JESUS CHRIST more than all the earth;
And, for love of Him, I have loved more than myself,
All those who are in TRAVAIL and in PAIN.”

Ven. Pauline Marie Jaricot

THE PIOUS EXERCISE OF THE LIVING ROSARY

The individual devotion of isolated souls is often a SPARK in the middle of darkness without the influence of a flame. Through our union of charity in praying the Living Rosary, we INJECT this spiritual remedy into the souls of others as SPIRITUAL MEDICINE. In this way, those who are strong uphold the weak, those who are fervent inspire the lukewarm and the spiritually rich enrich the poor: BRING THEM ALL TOGETHER AND YOU HAVE A FURNACE!

One who prays the Rosary alone receives the graces and merits of one Rosary. Yet, if he is united with FIFTEEN million others, he gains the graces and merits of the whole!

Write and send us your name. We will build a list of 15 and send you the Mystery you are assigned to pray daily. Your DECADE may be offered at any time of the day or night, and in any place.

Our common intention remains: The TRIUMPH of The Immaculate Heart of Mary!

RESTORE THE FAMILY TO CHRIST THROUGH THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY!

Just as we pray for the souls in Purgatory who have no one to pray for them, we should also make it a part of our life’s mission to pass on our faith to as many souls as possible who have no one else to pass it on to them, who don’t know Our Lord and His promise of salvation.
