VENERABLE PAULINE-MARIE JARICOT

HEART ON FIRE!

The compilation of this work on Ven. Pauline-Marie Jaricot is something we have longed to set forth for many years. Through a singular impulse of petition to St. Philomena, the devotion of the Living Rosary was set ablaze in the 21st Century. Nothing has been changed from the original constitution with the exception of the rotation of Decades. One by one, the prayer took life in the Heart of the Church, and the fire spread with singular speed. This came at a time similar to that of the French Revolution in Pauline’s own day, when the Rosary had fallen into disuse, except for the old and unlearned, and the fire of faith had once again been nearly extinguished by a secularism which griped the whole world.

One small family took up this crusade and drop-by-drop its saving balm was poured into the hearts and souls of all mankind. During the ensuing years, communications with Fr. G. Naidenoff who had been entrusted with the works of Ven. Pauline-Marie Jaricot and her cause for beatification, guided and fed this fire. We begged Father for prayers to Pauline, and he encouraged us to compose them. The Litany of Pauline was composed and approved to be accurate by Father, and then published as a private litany in her honor. The prayer for Debtors arose from the hearts of those who identified with Pauline’s deep understanding of the suffering of all those in debt. Knowing the Heart of Pauline, Father guided us, sent us Pauline’s circular letters, the manuscript of her book, ‘Infinite Love of the Divine Eucharist’ and the very Relic of the blood of her heart, that organ which she exchanged with the Heart of Christ. Father Naidenoff took a Decade in this Living Rosary, which he perceived to be the very conception of salvation founded by Pauline. To this day, it has increased and spread through the whole world. Many Archbishops, Bishops and thousands of religious throughout the world are members if not animators of this beautiful work flooding the whole world with the Fire of Christ’s Sacred Passion poured out upon the earth through the Daily Decades united for the Triumph of Our Eucharistic King.

This little book is taken in part from the Circulars sent to us by Fr. G. Naidenoff, in large part from the beautiful new book recently published by Sr. Marie Monique in the French language, the lovely old manuscript on ‘The Life of Pauline’ by Maria Perrin and enriched by our own work with the Living Rosary carried on for nearly 27 years. Its primary end is to honor our saintly foundress, set forth the virtues of her victim heart and ignite all souls with her missionary spirit, the fire that burned within that magnificent heart, immolated completely for the glory of God. We encourage everyone to reproduce and share this poor work in every language in the whole world.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, they will be satisfied!”
(Matt. 5:6)

As I listen to this beatitude in prayer, I often see the vision of Pauline-Marie Jaricot. What is the secret of that inner flame which burned in her heart and which she so longed to communicate to others? It is the fire of charity, a love of God so intense that it can only be reflected to us in her love of mankind, particularly the poor.

At seventeen years of age, Pauline had forsaken a life of ease and luxury, which left her heart thirsting for love. Pauline encountered God! It was a sudden meeting that drastically changed her life. Henceforth, Jesus Christ would be her EVERYTHING! Through daily prayer, she opened her heart to the God Who dwelt within her soul. “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” (Gal. 2:20) Pauline lived to be 63 years of age. She passed through difficult and cruel times with an absolute confidence, abandoning herself to the love of One Who loved her more than anything. Through all her sufferings, she was always conformed to the Will of God: “My heart is ready, O my God, my heart is ready!” One could say that she had known a martyrdom of the heart. This non-bloody martyrdom she lived every day of her life that Christ might live in her and, through her, in all souls.

“The Love of Christ was the great well-spring of her life,” confides the author of this book. This Fountain of Life she discovered through the Virgin Mary. We recover in her spiritual life and in her work of the Living Rosary the invitation to contemplate Jesus through the eyes of Mary, His Mother. The “poor one of Mary” as she so loved to sign herself, wanted to make known and loved the merciful Heart of Christ in every country of the world. This will be the great work of her life then, which she began at a young age, the foundation of “The Propagation of the Faith” which flowered from the Church in Lyon and of which Pauline is the true Foundress, “The First Match that lit the Fire.”

Pauline-Marie Jaricot was a woman of action, an untiring apostle but, first of all, she was a contemplative. It was in prayer, the daily intimacy of her union with God, that she drew her missionary zeal and the strength to undertake this labor of enormous dimensions. Her sole desire was to do everything for the Glory of God. “What does it matter, humiliations and suffering, if I find the hidden fire of my Divine Love?” This flame, which lived within her, was contagious. Pauline’s great attachment to the mystery of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist is an invitation to us all to turn to God and become like Jesus, “A living offering to the praise of His Glory.”

THE CROWN OF PERFECTION

Perfection is to put God first in everything; never, even in good things, to seek one’s own will and pleasure before Our Lord’s. We cannot expect the grace of perseverance unless we prepare ourselves for it by prayer and generous self-denial. The constant aim of life should be indifference to all but the Will and interests of Our Divine Master. True detachment is a separation from the world and self. If, in Heaven, we wish to follow the Lamb withersoever He goeth, we must on earth tread closely behind the Bleeding Footprints of the Gentle Lamb, up the sharp, steep, brambly mountain to the very summit where He awaits us on the Tree of Crucifixion. We are children of a Crucified God; our one goal is to be conformed to His image. He has signed us with the Sign of the Cross: the pledge of His Love! And, our response must be a loving acceptance of that pledge. During all our life, let us keep our gaze fixed on Him, Our Master and Our Model. Joy has its domain chiefly in the soul and pleasure chiefly in the senses. Joy is Christian and pleasure pagan. To secure true JOY which has its source in God, we must be willing to pay the price. The soul who serves God is always cheerful. A word or a smile is often times enough to put fresh life in a despondent soul. Let us not do things for the sake of receiving, but simply to give joy to the Heart of God. I serve Thee, O my God, not for the reward that I might receive, but solely for the sake of saving souls.

“Go sell all thou hast and give it to the poor,
and come follow Me!”

Share Your Gift of Faith

For centuries, our cherished Catholic faith has been passed from person to person, parent to child, etc. Each of us carries in our heart a special memory of how God first graced us with the knowledge of the faith and how Our Blessed Mother, Saint Philomena, Venerable Pauline Jaricot and other saints changed our lives and brought us closer to Christ.

In our work in the Universal Living Rosary Association, we see first hand how millions of souls are currently living without that knowledge of God and are living outside of His grace. We have been given a beautiful opportunity to carry out Christ’s work and pass on our faith and blessings to others who would otherwise never be introduced to Our Lord, the Savior of all mankind. Just as we pray for the souls in Purgatory who have no one to pray for them, we should also make it a part of our life’s mission to pass on our faith to as many souls as possible who have no one else to pass it on to them, who don’t know Our Lord and His promise of salvation.
