Dear Mrs. Patti,
I take the opportunity to share with you information on the rapid growth of the Living Rosary in Ukraine. I think the military conflict in Ukraine changed the lives of many people and they realize that they have to rely upon God and the Virgin Mary rather than military power and money. We can see the faith is growing in Ukraine. The devotion of Living Rosary was like a fire when it started and needs to be nourished by regular and constant prayers and work. At the parish where I am working, the Living Rosary devotion is making a miracle. I can see lots of new people are willing to join the Rosary prayer and take part in the parish devotions. I am ready to assist you in every possible way that I can. I express my deepest thanks for your generous support in the renovation project of the church in Ukraine and for the Living Rosary center here. With the prayers and respect,

THE DIVINE MOTHERHOOD OF MARY! No human tongue can worthily sing the praises of Mary. While God is sovereignly independent from His creatures, He chose to have recourse to the Immaculate Virgin Mary in order to accomplish the greatest designs of His Infinite Mercy. God sent the Archangel Gabriel to solicit her permission. The Holy Ghost miraculously fructified her virginity becoming her Spouse and the Eternal Word drew from her flesh His most Holy Body and infinitely Precious Blood and was nourished for many months while in the cradle of her arms. St. Augustine said, “The Flesh of Christ is the flesh of Mary.” By her divine Motherhood, the Blessed Virgin Mary possesses indisputable rights over Our Savior. On earth as in Heaven, Jesus pays His Mother the entire respect and tenderness of a Son. Mary’s divine Motherhood should inspire us with unlimited confidence in her all-powerful prayers for us. At the foot of the Cross, God entrusted Mary to us as our Mother. She holds the key which opens the Heart of Jesus that the flood of His richest Graces may pour out upon the world. It is Our Lady’s role to distribute the Graces merited by the Precious Blood of her Divine Son. She refuses them to no one! Christ died for all men. Mary saw Jesus born in a wretched stable. She was forced to flee into Egypt to guard her Precious Treasure from the murderous rage of Herod. She lost her Child in Jerusalem, finding Him only after three longs days of tears and agony. It was by suffering that Mary united herself to her dying Son for our deliverance at the Foot of the Cross. Her faith was unfailing, her confidence unshakable, and her love knew no bounds! Mary longs to open the door of our hearts so that Jesus might enter into them. In the Holy Eucharist, He communicates His infinite Life to increase the action of Sanctifying Grace within us. He causes His breath of Life to animate our hearts. He brings us His Precious Blood to quench the fires of concupiscence. Here in the Eucharist is the Miracle of His Love: the very Bread of Angels! SAINT PHILOMENA, WONDER-WORKER (continued) It was the little case containing the relics. Doubtless, the house servants had put it on the front seat, as they had been told to do. The Bishop believed it to be under the cloaks. But, the Bishop’s servants, out of a natural wish to alter what the others had arranged, had stowed it away in the safest place because it looked valuable. The Bishop must have looked a little perplexed when he watched his man dislodge it with such difficulty. “Do you know what that is? It is a case of relics. It ought not to be stowed away like a piece of luggage. Surely, I said it was to be placed most carefully on the front seat …” It was time to start. In fact, they were behind time. It was only when they were out of sight of their friends and settled down that they had time to notice how the case lay on the seat before them, jolting so little even when the coach was traveling at full speed over the cobbled road. The Bishop began to wonder, “It didn’t just SLIP forward against me. I was rapped very hard.” The more he described the blows, the more evident it became they were not the kind of blows he could possibly have gotten from something of this size and weight. There was nothing but to realize that Philomena had rapped his episcopal legs. Had she not done so, the journey to Mugnano would have begun with her relics stowed away like any parcel. The journey to Mugnano was to be the triumphal journey of a saint who was coming to convert it. Philomena knew that God must be honored in His saints, especially in His virgins and His martyrs. There, united to the awful dignity of God Who was her All, lay Philomena’s dignity. But, the method of claiming the honor due to her dignity is her own. The good Neapolitan Bishop realized all that. Uncovering his head, he knelt in the coach and most humbly kissed the case of relics, begging Philomena’s pardon. He sat down again to begin the recitation with Don Francesco, of Psalms and prayers. The journey began and continued like a pilgrimage, a wonderful pilgrimage with the shrine moving before them. They arrived at Naples the next day. The relics were deposited in the private chapel of a rich and well-known publisher, Don Antonio Terres. There, they were to be enclosed, Neapolitan fashion, in a papier-mâché figure representing the saint. The worker employed to do this was not at all skillful. The result, even to Neapolitan taste, must have been disappointing. He had molded his material over the skull and eye-sockets, but had drawn back the lips to show the real teeth. He gave it chestnut color silk hair, long and straight. The face, hands, neck and shoulders were painted white. The dressing of the figure had been left to Don Antonio’s wife, Donna Angela. She chose silk and velvet for the garments, which included a red mantle and a blue scarf, draped in a manner leaving one shoulder bare. She laid the whole abominable doll on a velvet mattress and lavishly trimmed it with tinsel. One hand held an artificial lily and a palm-branch, while the other held an arrow dramatically pointing to Philomena’s heart. The time came to put the figure and the mattress in the glass-sided ebony shrine. With alarming dismay, the shrine was found to be too short. The figure, which was lying on its back with its head on two cushions, had to have its knees drawn up in the attitude of a girl lying in a meadow in order to fit inside! This was to be Philomena’s introduction to the people of Mugnano! Donna Angela saw nothing wrong with it, but wept with devotion as she laid the relics inside the figure. While dressing Philomena, the fragrance of sweetest perfumes filled her house. The relic was purposely kept out of reach of anything which could affect it. “The odor of sanctity” remains the most touching of all phenomena, converting that band of outlaws, the five senses through the testimony of one of them. Such a scent is not always lovely, nor is it always comparable to the scent of roses, lilies or violets. Sometimes, it is a strange perfume. But, always, it appears to convey a promise of better things to come. While the memory lasts, the senses have no inclination to rebel. Whatever we may think of the way Donna Angela had done her work, Philomena must have been pleased with her devotion. Before Philomena left the house, she healed her hostess of an incurable disease which had kept the Terres family in serious anxiety for twelve years. During the three days in which the relics were exposed in the Church of St. Angelo, Philomena worked no miracle. The priests of the church cheerfully confessed, afterwards, to Don Francesco that they were determined, if she had displayed any favor, to keep her there at all costs. Don Francesco was beginning to know his Philomena by now. She would not make her home anywhere but Mugnano. It was here her work was to be accomplished. A few days before the journey to Mugnano began, the relics were brought back to the chapel of Antonio Terres. During this time, she worked many miraculous cures. Two girls, who had seen the figure in St. Angelo’s, begged for a relic to give to their aunt who was to have her hand amputated the next day. They were given one. On the eve of the surgery, the relic was placed over her gangrened hand. She slept peacefully through the night while her nieces watched and prayed. When the surgeon came, he found no gangrene at all. The old wound was healed. Surgery was cancelled! |

Dear Mother Patti,
May God’s blessings be with you! Thank you for all you are doing in this holy and blessed Apostolate of promoting devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Philomena through the praying of the Rosary. It is so wonderful to see how wide the Association has spread. I write in acknowledgement of receipt of the box you sent me. I received it on 28th November. I was really filled with joy as I opened it. My heart was delighted when I saw the SAINT PHILOMENA, WONDER WORKER and Ven. Pauline Jaricot booklets, Dedicated Decades, holy oil, cords, some printed matter and prayer cards, the nice Rosaries, Scapulars and Miraculous Medals. These will really benefit the members. May the Almighty God bless and reward our benefactors whose hearts are so open that they share their resources with us in the mission lands! To you and your team in the office, I fail to find words to thank you, but to pray and offer my pains for you. Soon, I will send you a more detailed letter with the forms of new registered members. Wishing you God’s blessings in this Advent season as we await the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ! Sr. Jacintha Tumwine, Sisters of Our Lady of Good Counsel |

Share Your Gift of FaithFor centuries, our cherished Catholic faith has been passed from person to person, parent to child, etc. Each of us carries in our heart a special memory of how God first graced us with the knowledge of the faith and how Our Blessed Mother, Saint Philomena, Venerable Pauline Jaricot and other saints changed our lives and brought us closer to Christ. In our work in the Universal Living Rosary Association, we see first hand how millions of souls are currently living without that knowledge of God and are living outside of His grace. We have been given a beautiful opportunity to carry out Christ’s work and pass on our faith and blessings to others who would otherwise never be introduced to Our Lord, the Savior of all mankind. Just as we pray for the souls in Purgatory who have no one to pray for them, we should also make it a part of our life’s mission to pass on our faith to as many souls as possible who have no one else to pass it on to them, who don’t know Our Lord and His promise of salvation. This is the box we send out to the foreign Missions $77.95. It contains Rosaries, Scapulars, Miraculous Medals, Cord & Oil, Newsletters, Calendars, Catechism books, 2 TAN books, large color prints, lists and encouragement for our Promoters. |
