LOVE ALONE MATTERS!

Dear Apostles of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

We are so very deeply grateful for your kind donation and your prayers. The root cause of the troubles of humanity today is neglect of God. It is the duty of every Catholic to mirror Christ in His zeal for souls: that is why He was born, why He preached, why He suffered and why He chose to remain with us in the Blessed Eucharistic. We thank God for your burning and true zeal for souls through your donation and your faithfulness to your Daily Decade!

Only the power of God’s sacrificial Love flowing first into us and transforming us and, then, flowing through us out into the world, can really make a difference! Without love, we are nothing, we have nothing and we gain nothing. Love Alone Matters!

Knowledge without love produces arrogance.
Power without love creates tyranny.
Zeal without love results in fanaticism.

Love is the definition and measure of success. The love God inspires in us is humble. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love seeks to do good to others in ways both small and great. Love is not boastful, arrogant or rude.

Spiritual pride is a disease of the soul; a deadly disease which makes self the center of life. It is the one sin that gives rise to all others. Humility recognizes God as the center of all things and our total dependence on Him. Love sees the equal worth of everyone and seeks to serve others. If we are going to love at all, we need a heart transplant. Our hearts must be centered in Christ!

Jesus Christ is the greatest example of humble love there has ever been: He made Himself nothing taking the form of a servant, while giving up everything, even life itself, for the sake of those He loved. When we love, we give up our individualism and put the needs of others before our own. Love’s sacrifice is not compromise, giving up something in order to get something back. It is pure sacrifice. Love simply gives. It spends itself entirely with no thought of return. Love keeps no records of wrongs. It always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres. Love never fails. Love hates sin while still loving the sinner. Love is triumphant! Love does not want to possess and control others; it wants only to serve them. Love is generous, spontaneous, free and unreserved. Love never ends! Because of the eternal Love of God, our lives that seem so temporary and impermanent take on an eternal weight of glory.

Let us make LOVE our aim!

Our prayers are¬ with you both day and night.

PATTI MELVIN, Director – ULRA

Let us pray for one another.

U.S.A.Dear Patti,

Greetings and best wishes from the Catholic Training Centre!

Thank you so much for the receipt of a parcel of Rosaries, Scapulars and material for sharing with us in Lesotho the life of St. Philomena, no doubt this will encourage and strengthen our devotion to St. Philomena.

In our Country Lesotho, St. Philomena is well known especially by the Children of Mary. Recently, they came in great numbers at Christ the Priest Parish for their annual retreat to strengthen their devotion and love to Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Philomena.

Once again thank you so much for the recent packet of materials, Rosaries and leaflets on the devotion to the Holy Eucharist and Our Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Christian people are happy and grateful to you and to all those who help you to spread real devotion and love to our Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Philomena.

May the Good Lord bless and reward you in return!

With gratitude and promise of our prayers,

Dear Patti Melvin,Glory to God in the highest Heaven and Peace to His people on earth! I thank you all for your prayers. Our long awaited Annual ULRA conference in Omega, Namibia, took place from October 23-25, 2015. It was attended by about 630 – 750, both old and new members. The members came from all corners of our country including new members from Zimbabwe and Angola. Our members from Rundu did a marvelous mission activity. They undertook a journey to Eastern Zimbabwe and introduced the Living Rosary mission, and one new member from Zimbabwe joined us. They also managed to bring along other new members from Angola whom I invited to join us in the conference with the aim to learn from us and to start the Association in their own country.

The travel fee for the Angolians was covered by the northern ULRA members. We had enough Sacramentals for everyone. The distribution went very well. All our members returned home cheerfully.

I thank you and our benefactors for your generosity. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

United in the Immaculate Heart.

When we love, we remember, and this memory – the effect of love – is not a barren thought. It resolves itself into DEEDS for the loved one. They are at peace for they have escaped Hell forever. Enroll your Departed Loved Ones in thirty days of Requiem Masses in Ukraine. Fr. Ivan Kolodiy has arranged for these Masses to be offered from 1st to 30th November. The names you send will be placed upon the Altar during this time. A Mass card will be sent out to you for each one you enroll.

Share Your Gift of Faith

For centuries, our cherished Catholic faith has been passed from person to person, parent to child, etc. Each of us carries in our heart a special memory of how God first graced us with the knowledge of the faith and how Our Blessed Mother, Saint Philomena, Venerable Pauline Jaricot and other saints changed our lives and brought us closer to Christ.

In our work in the Universal Living Rosary Association, we see first hand how millions of souls are currently living without that knowledge of God and are living outside of His grace. We have been given a beautiful opportunity to carry out Christ’s work and pass on our faith and blessings to others who would otherwise never be introduced to Our Lord, the Savior of all mankind. Just as we pray for the souls in Purgatory who have no one to pray for them, we should also make it a part of our life’s mission to pass on our faith to as many souls as possible who have no one else to pass it on to them, who don’t know Our Lord and His promise of salvation.

This is the box we send out to the foreign Missions $77.95. It contains Rosaries, Scapulars, Miraculous Medals, Cord & Oil, Newsletters, Calendars, Catechism books, 2 TAN books, large color prints, lists and encouragements for our Promoters.

Peace be with you!

Dear Members, Benefactors and Apostles of the Living Rosary,

During this time of the Synod on the Family in Rome, we pray that the Sacrament of Marriage will be held up in all holiness, unity and indissolubility. We pray for you, parents, that you may spend and be spent for the purpose of sanctifying one another and the offspring that God brings into the world through your mutual love and obedience to His command: be fruitful and multiply. The sacrifice required of you is total, not 50:50 or 75:25. Each must give 100% or the union will be one of great unhappiness and failure.

The Church has not erred and does not err in teaching that the bond of marriage cannot be loosed even on account of the sin of adultery and, thus, it is evident that all other weaker excuses cannot be just cause for annulment. Imperfect separation of the parties is allowed, but the bond is never severed! The most essential ingredient of a successful marriage is Humility!

Peace in marriage is a Gift of the Holy Ghost, which must be protected even in the midst of anxieties, contradictions and opposition. A gentle look can repress a quick temper; a difference of opinion can be arrested by a single word. If we are to conquer and keep an inner peace, we must be prepared to accept with calm and courage whatever happens. Pain, opposition, misunderstandings, even calumnies, all are possible and, being human, we cannot but feel them keenly; still, we can always turn for comfort to Jesus. Kneeling before His Tabernacle, we can pour out our troubles, all that has upset us and made us lose our balance. He alone knows all, understands our weakness and, if we humbly ask, He forgives us. Childlike, we lay our faults and troubles at His Feet, and obtain His pardon and promise. We leave comforted and strengthened to try again tomorrow. How we must be filled with gratitude to God for His divine assistance at every turn! All our suffering and pain can be a source of peace. Many sick people arise in the morning, make again their FIAT, take up their cross and greet the new day in peace. Once they have finally accepted their lot, perhaps after years of struggle, with God’s help, they have peace. Such individuals, often without knowing it, pass on their peace to others. Goodness and kindness are love in action. Christ healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, made lame men walk, and brought the dead back to life. He comforted those who mourned, fed the hungry, changed water into wine, forgave sinners, died for His enemies and prayed for them with His last breath. Pray that peace may flourish in your soul and ask for the humility needed in order that your home may be a happy one, whose center will always be the Meek and Merciful Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

My benediction is extended to you throughout the month as we remember, during November, the Holy Souls in Purgatory. These dear souls cannot help themselves, so the Masses you arrange for them is a gift both infinite and essential. May God reward your great charity!

I impart to all of you, my priestly blessing:

+ In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Dear Mrs. Melvin,My nephew and I just returned from Lesotho. Our eighty-five year old translator had a stroke last month and without her to cook for us in Lesotho, we arrived with no one knowing we were coming; the stove had to be connected to a propane tank, silverware found, dishes with insects crawling on them were rinsed (we had to buy dishwashing soap), the sink had no running water or drainpipe and the freezer had no fuel. We worked with flashlights as the solar lights were not connected. We gave someone money to buy propane for the freezer (there is no refrigerator) and he came with it the next morning, balancing the large tank on the back of a mule coming from town. The milk could then be cooled but on the last day was frozen, so we had to melt it in boiling water to have some for breakfast on the cereal. Our first meal was instant noodles cooked in boiling water. We could not make tea since we turned off the flame after boiling the water for the noodles and did not have matches at hand to relight it. Two ladies helped with the cooking beginning the next day, when they found out that we were there. I must admit that I wanted to abandon ship and return home when no one came to the Mass the next day and I lost a contact somehow in the hut where we stayed. I said to my nephew that this bad start is a sign that special graces are on the way, and so it happened. We never had so many people at the Mass and a good number of people wanted either to be received into the Church or receive the Sacraments.

On Sunday, a tent was hired by the daughter of our sick translator, even though she is Anglican. She heard that we were overcrowded and decided to help solve the problem. There were between 100-120 faithful at the outdoor Mass, double of the last Mass two months ago. The tent was not big enough for the crowd. My nephew counted 45 small children sitting on a tarp in the front of the tent. There were seven Baptisms of small children after the Mass. I was expecting only two but twenty candidates showed up. The translator came to the Mass in a wheelchair and told me which small children were from families who are practicing Catholics. After the Baptisms, I spoke to the families who wanted their children baptized and decided that I could baptize the same number next month. But I do not know if we will have use of the tent and most likely the numbers will be even higher than this time. There were many new people who came, and one lady asked to be received into the church. There were many new voices singing at the Mass and they broke out in song when the actual Baptisms took place and the giving of the candles. (They all brought candles for the ceremony; instead of taking them home, they gave them for the church to use at Mass).

The translator’s sister-in-law went to confession after having been going to her husband’s Anglican Church. Now, her husband wants to join the Catholic Church along with her daughter (who is married to a Catholic) and her teenage grandson and granddaughter. The grandmother said that she will teach them all. She cooks for us and leads the singing very enthusiastically. A Catholic lady who entered a “natural” marriage with her husband asked to be married in the Church and her husband wants to be baptized. Numerous children are now getting catechism from an older lady in the “parish,” who is preparing them for their first Communions.

The faithful asked again for a chapel, but I told them that the superior is not in favor of it, but would rather that a mission be established in Maseru, the capital city. We gave out most of the remaining religious literature in Sesotho and the Sacramentals that you gave us in the previous months. See the picture of the children holding up the holy cards that you sent.

May I ask the cost of getting more religious article for our faithful in Lesotho? We have Scapulars and Rosaries, but not the Sesotho flyers for the Miraculous Medals, etc. that you sent. Your support has encouraged more souls to come to the Masses now and to be baptized. May God bless you for your zeal for souls in far corners of the world!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

< Fr. Paul Kimball, Our Lady of Sorrows Priory, Roodepoort – South Africa >

FIFTH DAY

Light Immortal! Light Divine!
Visit Thou these hearts of Thine,
And our inmost being fill!

The Gift of Knowledge

The Gift of Knowledge enables the soul to evaluate created things at their true worth in their relation to God. Knowledge unmasks the pretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose as instruments in the service of God. It shows us the loving care of God even in adversity, and directs us to glorify Him in every circumstance of life. Guided by its light, we put first things first, and prize the friendship of God beyond all else. “Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it.”

PRAYER: Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, and grant that I may perceive the Will of the Father; show me the nothingness of earthly things, that I may realize their vanity and use them only for Thy glory and my own salvation, looking ever beyond them to Thee, and Thy eternal rewards. Amen.

SIXTH DAY

If Thou take Thy grace away,
Nothing pure in man will stay;
All his good is turned to ill.

The Gift of Understanding

Understanding, as a Gift of the Holy Ghost, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion. By Faith, we know them but, by Understanding, we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths and, through them, to be quickened to a newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to “walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
PRAYER: Come, O Spirit of Understanding and enlighten our minds that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy Light; and in the light of glory to have a clear vision of Thee, and the Father and the Son. Amen.

SEVENTH DAY

Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour Thy dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away!

The Gift of Counsel

The Gift of Counsel endows the soul with supernatural prudence, enabling it to judge promptly and rightly what must be done, especially in difficult circumstances. Counsel applies the principles furnished by Knowledge and Understanding to the innumerable concrete cases that confront us in the course of our daily duty as parents, teachers, public servants and Christian citizens. Counsel is supernatural common sense, a priceless treasure in the quest of salvation. “Above all these things, pray to the Most High, that He may direct thy way in truth.”

PRAYER: Come, O Spirit of Counsel, help and guide me in all ways that I may always do Thy Will. Incline my heart to that which is good; turn it away from all that is evil, and direct me by the straight path of Thy Commandments to that goal of Eternal Life for which I long. Amen.

EIGHTH DAY

Bend the stubborn heart and will,
Melt the frozen, warm the chill,
Guide the steps that go astray!

The Gift of Wisdom

Embodying all the other Gifts, as Charity embraces all the other Virtues, Wisdom is the most perfect of the Gifts. Of Wisdom, it is written, “All good things come to me with her, and innumerable riches through her hands.” It is the Gift of Wisdom that strengthens our Faith, fortifies Hope, perfects Charity, and promotes the practice of Virtue in the highest degree. Wisdom enlightens the mind to discern and relish things divine, in the appreciation of which, earthly joys lose their savor, whilst the Cross of Christ yields a divine sweetness according to the words of the Savior: “Take up thy cross and follow Me, for My yoke is sweet and My burden light.”

PRAYER: Come, O Spirit of Wisdom, and reveal to my soul the mysteries of heavenly things, their exceeding greatness, power and beauty. Teach me to love them above and beyond all the passing joys and satisfactions of earth. Help me to attain them and possess them forever. Amen.

NINTH DAY

Thou, on those who evermore Thee confess and Thee adore,
In Thy sevenfold Gifts, descend: Give them comfort when they die;
Give them life with Thee on high; Give them joys which never end. Amen.

THE FRUITS OF THE HOLY GHOST

The Gifts of the Holy Ghost perfect the supernatural virtues by enabling us to practice them with greater docility to divine inspiration. As we grow in the knowledge and love of God under the direction of the Holy Ghost, our service becomes more sincere and generous, the practice of virtue more perfect. Such acts of virtue leave the heart filled with joy and consolation and are known as Fruits of the Holy Ghost. These Fruits, in turn, render the practice of virtue more attractive and become a powerful incentive for still greater efforts in the service of God.

PRAYER: Come, O Divine Spirit, fill my heart with Thy heavenly Fruits: Thy Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, Benignity, Goodness, Longanimity, Mildness, Faith, Modesty, Continency and Chastity that I may never weary in the service of God, but by continued faithful submission to Thy inspiration may merit to be united eternally with Thee in the love of the Father and the Son. Amen.

O, Holy Ghost, I offer Thee the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, His most Precious Blood, the sorrowful, humble, pure, obedient and Immaculate Heart of Mary, to repair for all my offenses and negligences. I consecrate myself unreservedly to Thee. I place all my trust in Thee. Help me to make Thee better known and loved throughout the world. Give me an intense zeal for souls to console Jesus, strengthen my love and confidence in our Blessed Mother.

THE IMMACULATE SPOUSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

O Mother of God, sanctified by the Holy Ghost in thy Immaculate Conception, pray for me.

O Mother of God, sanctified by the Holy Ghost in the sweetness and brightness of thy Annunciation,
pray for me

O Mother of God, sanctified by the Holy Ghost in the flames of Pentecost and the fire of thy uncreated Love, pray for me

O ye Apostles of the Lamb, filled with the Holy Ghost at Pentecost, and crowned with living fire, pray for me.

A certain artist has depicted Mary as the Spouse of the Holy Spirit. The picture shows Mary standing upon a globe, which represents the world. Above is the Blessed Trinity. Directly over her head hovers the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Graces, represented by rays of light, stream from Him into Mary’s heart, and from thence pour themselves upon the earth in seven streams, symbolizing the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit granted to men through Mary’s mediation. In several passages of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit Himself calls Mary His Spouse. Even at the first instant of her conception, He imparted to her so great a fullness of grace that all the Angels and Saints combined have not attained such a degree of perfection.
Enraptured by Mary’s beauty, the Holy Spirit exclaims in admiration: “How beautiful art thou, My Love!” (Cant. 4:1) But it was above all at the Incarnation of the Son of God that Mary became the true Spouse of the Holy Spirit, for she conceived the Eternal Word in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Through Mary, with Mary, and in Mary, the Holy Spirit brought forth the God-man and, in like manner, He brings forth, every day, to the End of Time, the elect children of God. St. Louis Grignon de Montfort says: “The Holy Spirit imparted to Mary His immeasurable gifts, and has made her the dispenser of all His graces, so that she distributes His gifts and graces to whom she will, as much as she wills, and how and where she wills. No grace is given by Heaven to man except through her virginal hands.” St. Bernard and St. Alphonsus and many other theologians hold the same opinion.

To enable Mary to fill her new sublime office as Mother of all God’s children, she required another plenitude of grace, and this she received from the Holy Spirit at His coming on Pentecost. Mary had joined the Apostles in the Cenacle and, for nine days, had prayed with them and sighed for the coming of the Divine Comforter. It was due chiefly to her prayers and ardent desires that the Holy Ghost came down with such treasures of grace.

Through Mary, we must seek grace, for she is the Spouse of the Holy Spirit, and all graces are dispensed through her hands. Let us often greet Mary as the Spouse of the Holy Spirit.

“Thou art all fair, O Mary, and the stain of original sin is not in thee. Thou art the glory of Jerusalem, Thou art the joy of Israel, Thou art the honor of our people.”

(Introit of Mass – Feast of the Immaculate Conception) (100 days Indl., every time)

Most pure Heart of my Immaculate Mother, be pleased to obtain for me from the Sacred Heart of Jesus that gravity of mind whose fruit is a pure heart, that my soul may harbor none but good thoughts, determine none but generous deeds, keep its eagerness for the things of Eternity, and be so deeply penetrated by the thought of them that all other pre-occupations may seem only as they will appear at the moment of death, as they are in the sight of God, emptiness, vanity, nothingness. (Rev. Mother Goetz, R.S.H.) (300 days Indulgence)

“Put you on the armor of God that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Therefore, take unto you the armor of God that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect. Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in all things taking the shield of Faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one; and take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”

((Enchirdion Indulgentiarum No. 284)

FIRST DAY

Holy Spirit! Lord of Light!
From Thy clear celestial height
Thy pure beaming radiance give!

The Holy Ghost

Only one thing is important – Eternal Salvation! Only one thing, therefore, is to be feared – Sin! Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness and indifference. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love. With His sevenfold gifts He enlightens the mind, strengthens the will and inflames the heart with love of God. To ensure our salvation, we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit, daily, for “The Spirit helpeth our infirmity. We know not what we should pray for as we ought. But, the Spirit Himself asketh for us.”

Prayer

Almighty and Eternal God, Who hast vouchsafed to regenerate us by water and Holy Ghost, and hast given us forgiveness of all sins, vouchsafe to send forth from Heaven upon us Thy sevenfold Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

(Prayers below to be offered, daily, after the Novena meditation.)

Act of Consecration to the Holy Ghost

On my knees, before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body, to Thee, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Thy purity, the unerring keenness of Thy justice and the might of Thy Love. Thou art the strength and light of my soul. In Thee, I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve Thee by unfaithfulness to grace, and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against Thee.

Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Thy light, and listen to Thy voice, and follow Thy gracious inspirations. I cling to Thee and give myself to Thee and ask Thee, by Thy compassion, to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus, and looking at His five Wounds, and trusting in His Precious Blood, and adoring His opened side and stricken Heart, I implore Thee, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Thy grace that I may never sin against Thee. Give me grace, O Holy Ghost, Spirit of the Father and the Son, to say to Thee always and everywhere: “Speak Lord, for Thy servant heareth.” Amen.

A Prayer for the Seven Gifts of the Holy Ghost

O LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who, before ascending into Heaven, didst promise to send the Holy Ghost to finish Thy work in the souls of thy apostles and disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul the work of Thy grace and Thy love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal; the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the Light of Thy Divine Truth; the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining Heaven; the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with Thee and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation; the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints; the Spirit of Piety that i may find the service of God sweet and amiable; the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of thy true disciples and animate me in all things with Thy Spirit! Amen.

(7 Our Father, 7 Hail Mary, 7 Glory Be)

SECOND DAY

Come, Thou Father of the poor!
Come, with treasures which endure!
Come, Thou light of all that live!

THE GIFT OF FEAR

The Gift of Fear fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of Hell, but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenly Father. It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from the worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God. “They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts and, in His sight, will sanctify their souls.”

Prayer

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart that I may set Thee, my Lord and God, before my face forever; help me to shun all things that can offend Thee, and make me worthy to appear before the pure Eyes of Thy Divine Majesty in Heaven, where Thou livest and reignest in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God, world without end. Amen.

THIRD DAY

Thou, of all consolers best,
Visiting the troubled breast,
Dost refreshing peace bestow.

The Gift of Piety

The Gift of Piety begets in our hearts a filial affection for God as our most loving Father. It inspires us to love and respect, for His sake, persons and things consecrated to Him, as well as those who are vested with His authority, His Blessed Mother and the Saints, the Church and its visible Head, our parents and superiors, our country and its rulers. He, who is filled with the Gift of Piety, finds the practice of his religion, not a burdensome duty, but a delightful service. Where there is love, there is no labor.
PRAYER

Come, O Blessed Spirit, possess my heart. Enkindle therein such a love for God that I may find satisfaction only in His service and for His sake lovingly submit to all legitimate authority. Amen.

FOURTH DAY

Thou in toil art comfort sweet;
Pleasant coolness in the heart;
Solace in the midst of woe.

THE GIFT OF FORTITUDE

By the Gift of Fortitude, the soul is strengthened against natural fear, and supported to the end in the performance of duty. Fortitude imparts to the will an impulse and energy which move it to undertake, without hesitancy, the most arduous tasks, to face dangers, to trample under foot human respect, and to endure without complaint the slow martyrdom of even lifelong tribulation. “He that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.”

PRAYER

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Fortitude, uphold my soul in time of trouble and adversity, sustain my efforts after holiness, strengthen my weakness, give me courage against all the assaults of my enemies, that I may never be overcome and separated from Thee, my God and greatest Good. Amen.

Weekly News Flash from the Universal Living Rosary Association of Saint Philomena, Thursday, October21, 2015

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016
Dear Mrs. Patti Melvin,I would like to inform you that, in early September, I received a parcel you sent to me. I also received a letter you sent on 10th September. In your letter, you said you have a good stock of new leaflets. This month, October, we have planed to reach several Parishes, so we need more leaflets and other materials. You said you have a lovely little book titled, HOLINESS THROUGH MARY written by Fr. Francis Ripley. I have never heard about it. I will be happy if you send a copy to me.

I am trying my level best to do whatever I can to make sure the ULRA is known to everyone. I make sure each new member has the booklets titled, Universal Living Rosary, in Swahili “ROZARI HAI” the booklet with Rosary Mysteries meditations and the booklet with St. Philomena’s prayers titled, Mt. Philomena, mlinzi wa Rozari Hai. For making copies of these booklets and other important documents, I normally pay 100 Tanzanian shillings for each page.

You have asked in your letter of August 20, 2015 that you would like to know what we need to expand the work for Our Lady. The thing we need most is a PHOTOCOPIER which will help both to get more copies and reduce the cost to make copies.

Last week, I sent to you the lists of 135 new ULRA members. On Sunday, 11th October, we held a special Mass for enrolment of 75 new members at Mashati Parish. May God bless you!

Dear Patti Melvin,I would like to convey my gratitude for the Sacramentals you sent to me. I really appreciate them. The St. Philomena oil and cords are not enough. People are most in need of it. They are asking me each and every day. The cord which you gave me, I gave to one of our Sisters, Sr. Estockia, who was sick. When she got it and started wearing it, after three days, there was a very big improvement. Her mother is also sick. She needs the oil and cord. Many of my Sisters would like to have the cords and oil.

There is a lady who was pregnant. She is a sister to one of our Sisters in our congregation. She was hoping for a baby girl, because she has two boys. I gave her some oil and the image of the Saint. We agreed that, if the baby will be a girl, we will give her the name, Philomena. Here is the photo of the baby and the mother. In addition to that, my sister, at home, had a sick daughter and I gave her the small cord and oil packet. Now, she is well. There are so many stories.

Lastly, Sister Fidelis from the Poor Clares Monastery has handed over to me this Living Rosary work. She could not go out and assist people so she has entrusted the work to me. I wanted to confirm this to you.

Even my group at school is very happy and, this coming academic year, we are planning to start another group at Mtendere Secondary School so we will need more Sacramentals. The schools will commence on 7th September.

Wishing you all the best,

Yours in Christ,

MEDITATION ON THE HOLY GHOST (continued)

FOR THE TWELVE FRUITS OF THE HOLY GHOST

O Holy Ghost, Eternal Love of the Father and the Son! Deign to grant me the Fruit of CHARITY that it may unite me to Thee by means of love; the Fruit of JOY that it may fill me with a holy happiness even in the midst of affliction; the Fruit of PEACE that it may give me tranquility in my conscience; the Fruit of PATIENCE that it may make me love the Cross and help me to bear it; the Fruit of BENIGNITY that it may incline me to relieve the necessities of my neighbor; the Fruit of GOODNESS that it may make me kind to all; the Fruit of LONGANIMITY that it may maintain me in patience in the midst of opposition; the Fruit of MILDNESS that it may make me endure tranquilly whatever there may be in my neighbor to cause me annoyance; the Fruit of FAITH that it may permeate me with respect and love for the Word of God; the Fruit of MODESTY that it may regulate all my external acts; the Fruit of CONTINENCY that it may preserve my body in holiness; and the Fruit of CHASTITY, that my heart remaining ever pure in this world, I may deserve to see Thee in the Mansions of Thy glory. Amen.

PENETRATE MY HEART

(Prayer of St. Augustine)

O Divine Love! O Bond that unitest the Father and the Son, Spirit of Power, faithful Consoler of the afflicted, penetrate to the profoundest depths of my heart! Let the splendor of Thy light shine in it. Let Thy sweet dew fall upon it that its great dryness may cease. Send forth the heavenly rays of Thy love to the sanctuary of my soul, so that penetrating there, they may enkindle burning flames that will consume all my weakness, my negligence and my languor.

Come, then, come Thou sweet Consoler of desolate souls, Thou Refuge in danger and Protector in distress. Come, Thou that cleansest souls of their stains and healest their wounds. Come, Strength of the weak, Support of those about to fall. Come, Teacher of the humble, Vanquisher of the proud. Come, Father of the orphan, Hope of the poor, Treasure of those in need. Come, Star of the mariner, safe Harbor for those in danger of shipwreck. Come, Strength of the living, Salvation of those about to die. Come, O Holy Ghost, come and have mercy upon me.

Make my soul simple, docile and upright, and show pity towards my weakness with such clemency that my nothingness may find grace before Thy infinite greatness, my impotence before Thy omnipotence, and my offenses before the multitude of Thy mercies. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, my Savior. Amen.

INTIMATE PRAYERS

Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee my body with its senses and I beg of Thee to employ them for the greater glory of God. Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee my eyes, that they may look only on my Jesus. Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee, my ears, that they may be attentive only to Thy divine inspirations. Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee all my senses, that they may serve me only to love Jesus and to sacrifice myself for Him. Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee my soul with all its faculties, that it may be Thy temple and Thy oasis.

Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee my memory, that it may be mindful only of Thy beauty and of the words, acts and passion of my Jesus. Holy Ghost, I consecrate to Thee my heart with all its affections, that captivated alone by the charms and the delights of Thy love, it may ever find in Thee peace, love, strength, light and all Thy Gifts and Fruits, and that loving Thee every day more and more, and making Thee loved by many souls, and by the whole world, were it possible, Thou mayest also love me more and more, and make me holy with all those that I love. Amen.

FOR OUR COUNTRY

O Holy and most Beloved Spirit of God, to Thee do we commend all the needs of our dear country, confident that, in Thy mercy, Thou will hear us and deliver us from all evils which afflict or threaten us.

Come, Divine Fount of all happiness, and pour down Thy holy Peace upon our dear land, and maintain it in peace in spite of all enemies, whether from within or without. Thou who art the Soul of the Catholic Church, Thou who does shed abroad divine charity, Thou who art the Light of the understanding and the Divine Fire that inflameth the heart, draw to the fair bosom of the Spouse of Christ all Her erring children, giving the priceless gift of Faith to those who possess it not, and confirming us all in loving service and obedience to our Holy Father the Pope and to the Bishops and Pastors of the Church.

Behold our miseries, O Divine Spirit! Look upon the countless offenses committed, in public and in private, against the Divine Majesty. Certain it is that we have merited naught except castigation at the hands of God, but have we not Mary, our Mother and Thy Immaculate Spouse, and have we not Thee Thyself, O Spirit of Consolation, to save us from enemies and from the effects of our offenses!

We implore Thee, then, to send forth Thy vivifying breath to renew the face of our dear land! Who, O Divine Spirit, can triumph as Thou can, against the powers of Hell itself! For, art Thou not the Fire that consumeth all sin, Essential Purity, the Bond of brotherhood that we so yearn for, Truth infallible, and Love, oh yes, Love Divine that unites all, reconciles all and purifies all!

Save us, then, for we perish! Fortify, preserve and extend the reign of Thy Church in our beloved land; allay all strife, political, social and domestic; enlighten, guide and possess our rulers, through the merits of Christ Our Lord and the intercession of Mary, Thy Immaculate Spouse.

St. Michael, Archangel, who has so often been sent to combat for us against Lucifer and his vile followers, deliver us from the wiles of that evil spirit, and grant that our holy religion may triumph over the enemies who blindly oppose or persecute Her. Amen.

Weekly News Flash from the Universal Living Rosary Association of Saint Philomena, Thursday, October 7, 2015, 2015

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016
Dear Mother Patti,

Today, St. Philomena took me to a remote Parish, the St. Michael’s Parish, Nkol Meting, in the outskirts of Yaounde.

I left our center at 7:30 am, but the Mass which was supposed to begin at 10 am, finally started at about 12 noon.

Soon after Mass, the Parishioners lined up and a good number of them were enrolled. Many remarked, “This method of praying the Rosary is much easier to encourage one to love the Rosary.” As you can see, the people have no access to Rosary leaflets, Rosaries and brochures. They embraced the idea of the Daily Decade. Some prominent parishioners enrolled their children, even those who were not at Mass. I was assisted by another promoter from a nearby Parish, Nkongoa.

We encouraged our promoter in that Parish to continue the enrollment on every Sunday as we are about entering the Month of October, the Month of the Holy Rosary. I left the jungle Parish at about 3:45 pm.

Recently, I was able to travel to our French speaking countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Cotonou – Benin and Togo: The trip was very useful and bore much spiritual fruit. I want to thank you and all our benefactors for making this trip possible. Your help in directing boxes to the three areas that would arrive at the time of my visit to each country were very helpful. We met with priests, Sisters and lay apostles and gave them full introduction, Sacramentals and a plan for continuity of the devotion.

In Benin and Togo, Voodoo worship is wide spread. I am back at work now in Cameroon and will send you photos of our mission. Ave Maria!

My Immaculate Heart will be Your Refuge and the Way that Will Lead You to God!Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution of the Church: evolutionist materialism, atheism, class struggle, negation of the right to own property, rejection of the sacredness of marriage, and robbing parents of the right to educate their children. Today, negation of the moral law abounds in over three fourths of the world’s population. Crushed by earthly cares, robbed of truth and crippled by physical sufferings, where can we turn? There is not one among the Angels and Saints in Heaven whose heart is capable of compassionating our sufferings like the Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary! All you who are afflicted and suffering go to Our Lady and tell her of your distress. Weep, if you will, and She will console you. Her Soul was transfixed with a sword; She understands fully well your grief. From the Heart of Mary goes forth the saving virtue which cures all our ills. By the intercession of Our Queen, the lame walk, the blind see, the deaf hear, the paralyzed recover the use of their limbs, and the dying return to life. Our Lady draws as She wills from the Heart of the Divine Physician, the balm that cures our bodies and souls. If Mary has healed bodies, how much more She delights in helping the spiritually blind regain their vision, paralyzed souls to once again walk in strength, and lukewarm Christians to regain their early fervor and live their faith courageously. Let us bring all those in their last agony, those on cots and in wheelchairs, the sick, the weak, and the dying to the Queen of Heaven. She will place them at the foot of the Tabernacle of Love, wherein dwells the Divine Physician. We allow ourselves to be operated on by a mere mortal, but we protest when God sets to work on us. The chalice of suffering He offers us may be a bitter one, but has He not reddened it by His own Blood? We must not be grief-stricken that God is sharing with us the greatest mark of His favor: The Cross!!!

During the Month of October, as we celebrate the great victories of Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of Lourdes over Satan, let us bring our sick, our suffering and our dying to the foot of the Holy Altar to be bathed in the Most Precious Blood of Jesus through a Holy Mass Bouquet spanning the 31 days of October. Please list the names of your Loved Ones who are suffering physically, spiritually or emotionally, so they may take part in this Holy Mass Bouquet. A lovely Mass card will be sent out to you for each one you enroll.

MEDITATION ON THE HOLY GHOST

In his Encyclical on the Holy Ghost, Pope Leo XIII strongly urged the faithful to have a special devotion to this Divine Spirit and exhorted all Bishops and priests to preach this sanctifying devotion with a new and burning zeal. His Holiness pointed out that the Holy Ghost is constantly at work in the Church, which undertakes nothing of importance without invoking His aid in the solemn hymn, Veni Creator.

The words of the Holy Father were most timely, for many of the faithful seem to have forgotten the important role which the Holy Spirit plays in the life of the Church and of the individual. He is the guide and the sanctifier of both. Indeed, He is the very soul of the Church.

Shortly before His Ascension into Heaven, Jesus commended this devotion to the Apostles and promised to them the coming of the Holy Ghost. “But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost,” He said, “whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.” (Jn.14:26) (Pause and reflect)

In order to understand the powerful influence exercised upon the Apostles, consider how timid they were when they assembled in the cenacle after the crucifixion of their Divine Master and Leader, Jesus Christ. They undertook no missionary work: they remained in prayer, awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit who would transform them into intrepid Apostles, proclaiming the Gospel of Christ in all lands.

“And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished,” relates the Acts, “they were all together in one place and, suddenly, there came a sound from Heaven, as of a mighty wind coming and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And, there appeared to them parted tongues, as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with diverse tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.” (2:1-4)

Not only did the Apostles receive the gift of tongues but they received the courage, strength and fortitude to use that gift and, thus, to proclaim the Gospel of Christ to friend and foe. They became valiant and fearless men: instead of fleeing danger, they esteemed it a privilege to face perils of all kinds and even to die for the Faith of Christ. (Pause and reflect)

Weekly News Flash from the Universal Living Rosary Association of Saint Philomena, Thursday, October 1, 2015, 2015

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016
Dear Members and Benefactors of the Living Rosary,

October is the month of the Most Holy Rosary, dedicated to the Angelic Psalter and veneration of the Virgin Mary. It was the Mother of God who gave us the Holy Rosary. What a great strength to realize that we are all united throughout the world in this infinitely powerful prayer! Each one of us contributes to the efficacy of this great prayer which resonates from one end of the earth to the other.

What we cannot do ALONE, we can do TOGETHER!

My dear married couples, you must remember that God has chosen you for the part you must play in your families and, since He has chosen you for this role, He will supply you with all the strength you need to do your job meritoriously and in a way that is pleasing to Him. You may count on His help to achieve happiness and holiness in the marriage you have legitimately contracted and from which you no longer can withdraw. All regrets as to what might have been had you not married, are idle and futile. The only thing that matters is that you make the most of your situation through good sense and the Grace of God. If you are not fully happy in your married life, it is not a sign that you were not destined for it.

We are pilgrims in this life steering towards our Eternal Home and the more discomforts and annoyances we undergo, the less we should be disturbed by them. Blessed are they that fear the Lord! Worship God faithfully. Pray aloud as a family in the morning and evening, and before and after meals. The prayer need not be long, but it should be said regularly and constantly by the entire family. Abundant blessings will follow! The family Crucifix should be the most precious object and should form the most cherished and frequented shrine in the entire house. Before this Crucifix, the family pours out their grief and asks solace, courage and strength. In response to blessings, the family kneels before the Crucifix and speaks their appreciation and gratitude.

Other Sacraments are administered outside the Communion rail: Confession, Communion, Confirmation and Baptism. But, in Holy Matrimony, the Church throws open the gates to the sanctuary and introduces the candidates into the Holy of Holies, to the very spot where the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ is offered. The bride and groom are to learn the greatest tragedy and the highest triumph of Love! Each one must die to himself and live for the other as Christ gave His Life for the Church. God appointed the husband as the leader of the family. The husband is the head of the wife. (Ephesians 5:22-24) Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord, because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the Church. Husbands, love your wives. To the father of the family falls the obligation to organize religious life within the home. He should lead the family in prayer, and devote some time with his family to discuss Scripture thus bringing to them the spiritual food they need for union and strength. The special feasts of the Church should be celebrated in the home with hymns, festive meals and special prayers. Guard must be kept so that the family will remain chaste, moral and respectful of one another. The family is a domestic church. Following these principles, the household will have the greatest possibility of remaining faithful to Christ.

Every day, during the month of October at 8 p.m., the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all of you, for your family members, all of your spiritual and material needs, for your health, courage and perseverance. During the Sacred Liturgy, we will ask Almighty God to fill your hearts and bodies with joy, health, courage, faith, hope and love. After the Sacred Mass, we are going to celebrate the Service of the Small Paraklesis (Intercessory Prayer) to the Most Holy Theotokos. The Small Paraklesis is chanted in times of distress and sorrow of soul. Then, the Holy Rosary will be prayed for you. I encourage all of you who have sorrow in your life and difficult health issues, problems with your children and who need special protection, to flee to the arms of the Virgin Mary. She is going to help you.

“O our most blessed Queen, O Theotokos, our hope, guardian of orphans, intercessor for strangers, joy of the sorrowful, protectress of the wronged: thou seest our misfortune, thou seest our affliction; help us, for we are infirm; feed us for we are strangers. Thou knowest our offence: absolve it as thou wilt, for we have no other help beside Thee, no other intercessor, nor good consoler, except thee, O Mother of God. Do thou preserve and protect us unto the Ages of Ages.”

Please unite your prayers with ours as we pray every evening together. If you have the possibility, you may light a candle in your home during your prayers.

I impart to all of you, my priestly blessing:

+ In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Dear Apostle of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,Your gifts, prayers and sacrifices nourish and build up the Mystical Body of Christ in this great battle between good and evil, truth and error, love and hate. What a blessed privilege to help the Mother of God nurture souls unto everlasting beatitude! With the Pope here visiting and so much at stake for families and our Nation, we simply cannot do enough. Souls must be reached. When people are in pain, they are more receptive to spiritual remedies than during times of prosperity.

Now is the time to reach out to Every Soul we possibly can, ONE-by-ONE!

Is our faith a sham or a reality? Many of us have the faith, but we are not using it. Our mothers gave it to us, and their mothers before them. The faith is transmitted from mother to son. How meaningful our prayer to our Blessed Mother would be, if only we used the faith that we possess in making it!

Our Lord and Our Lady do not do as much as they could for us, because we think they are not able. It is we who limit the bounty of their mercy. The way to reach God is through the intercession of Mary. We must see Mary, walk with Mary, talk to Her, realize She is a real person who will listen, love and respond. Let us look at Mary for the first time with new clarity and intensity. Believe that She is alive, that She is real, that She has eyes, a face, a smile, a memory, an intelligence and a heart! She is a woman with a mother and father of her own, a Son Who is truly God, and Who loves you, and Who will deny you nothing that you ask. Mary is omnipotent in the power of her prayer. Mary is omnipotent in the power of her intercession with Her Son. Mary can do anything God can do. The difference is not what God can do and what Mary can do. The difference is the way they do it. God wills something and it happens. Mary prays to Him for something and He does it! God will NEVER say no to His Mother! Approach Jesus through Mary, and it will be done.

Our Lady is not peripheral or accidental to the life of the Church, not the object of a devotion which challenges the centrality of God and of Christ, but an integral part of the Church’s essential life!

All for Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Our prayers are¬ with you both day and night.

PATTI MELVIN, Director – ULRA

Let us pray for one another.

Dear Sr. Patti,

Please find some time to spend on this letter which tries to give a short history on spreading of the Living Rosary in our country in the past 15 years. This has been our regular program of the Living Rosary which has fetched thousands and thousands of members: We approach the parish priests and with their permission, we conduct one day or two days seminar in a parish. A single day program usually starts at 9.30 a.m. with Rosary and ends at 4 p.m. Prior to his accident, Brother Roche used to give a short introduction for 30 minutes on Ven. Pauline Jaricot and the Living Rosary. Thereafter, from 10.30 a.m., I motivate the congregation on the Catholic Faith, the role of Our Blessed Mother with reference to Genesis 3:15 and Revelation chapter 12, importance of Family Rosary, and how the Daily Decades hasten the Triumph of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The subject also covers Purgatory, Confession, Mass, Reparation and Fatima. However, before lunch between 12.30 and 1.00 p.m., our focus will be on Daily Decade again which prepares the people to feel proud of being a part of the ULRA. During the lunch time, 1.00 to 2.00 p.m., members are enrolled and books on the Secret of the Rosary and Saint Philomena are distributed. We also form new promoters at this time.

After lunch, I again motivate people on wearing the Scapular. The priest then invests the Scapular on the members. The final session from 3.00 to 4.00 p.m. will be taken by Bro. Ruban on St. Philomena. The program concludes with the Holy Mass and people are blessed with St. Philomena oil. This has been our regular program for the past 15 years and through this means large members are enrolled in the ULRA.

In order to miss no invitation from any Parish Priest to introduce the ULRA in his parish, I resigned my government job as Deputy Secretary to Government of Tamilnadu in the year 2011. The reason for dealing with fundamental Catholic issues in the ULRA conference is this: “A large number of Catholics have moved to protestant denominations in the past 20 years and this has become a continuous process in our State.”

In one parish of South India, out of the 3000 families, 1000 families have moved to Pentecostal denomination. The trend is spreading to other areas also. Apart from this outward threat to the Faith, the church is also facing inward threat. Our State contains 17 dioceses. Already in five dioceses, the Hail Mary, Full of Grace has been changed into Hail Mary, who has obtained more grace based on Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Steps are being taken by the hierarchy to introduce the same in other dioceses also. We are doing our mission with a bleeding heart and teaching people not to lose their Catholic Faith. We are very much aware of the fact that the Daily Decade and Family Rosary are the only remedy to this danger.

The ULRA is our duty, obligation and life. Brother Roche has withdrawn due his ill health after the accident, and Bro. Ruban and I will carry on the mission as long as God permits. Even in our absence, rest assured that the Living Rosary mission will go on as we are training some youngsters in the same line. Since the rest taken by Br. Roach, we have conducted the following parish level seminars:

In 2014: September and October:¬ Holy Eucharist Church and four parishes.

2015: January: Tambaram Fatima church and in February: four parishes. From March to August, we held conferences in 14 parishes in our city and neighboring cities.

The confirmed future programs are as follows:

Aug 23: Koilpatti
Aug 30: Pallikonda
Sep 6: Tambaram
Sep 12, 13: Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh
Sep 20: Moovarsan pettai
Sep 24: Vanuvampettai
Sep 27: St. Thomas Mount
Oct 4 and 10: Tambaram and Trichy

In July and August, we enrolled 570 new members in the Living Rosary. Please send an introduction letter to Ruban and to me, for our recognition as Living Rosary Promoters when we conduct the ULRA conferences in various Dioceses. Please pray for us. Ave Maria!

Best regards
Dhanaraj Rodrigues, Chennai – South India  .

Dear Members and Friends,We would like to draw your attention to a beautiful work being done by Mrs. Connie Schneider and her team. They have been working for many long years to develop the Children of The Eucharist, Young Missionaries of The Immaculate Heart of Mary associated with the International World Apostolate of Fatima. Their goal is to lead our youth to have a greater understanding, adoration and love for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, and to ever increase their love and trust in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is a program of hope!

www.childrenoftheeucharist.org

Annually, the children are asked to gather before the Most Blessed Sacrament and make a Holy Hour of Reparation and Adoration on October 2. Families are in peril and the prayer of children is powerful before the throne of God. Teachers, encourage your students to take part. Parents, go with your children and make the Holy Hour together with them. All who take part will become sensitive to sin and grow in virtue, grace and holiness.

Father Angelo Beda Ison, OFM of Jerusalem will be offering the Sacred Mass in the Holy Land on October 2 at St. Peter’s Church, Jaffa, for all who take part in the Annual Holy Hour of Reparation and for all who donate in support of this heroic effort to sanctify families and repair for the outrages and blasphemies against the Most Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

May an avalanche of Sanctifying Grace pour out over the face of the whole earth! God bless each and every one who will take an active part in this glorious effort to hasten the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

One with you in the Immaculate Heart of Mary,

PATTI MELVIN, Director – ULRA

Let us pray for one another..

MTHE BEAUTIFUL HANDS OF A PRIEST (concluded)The priest offers them the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. It is in our great hour of need, the priest has the power to cure the injuries of the soul, after sin has been committed. In the Christian life, there rises up tempests of trials which can make us slaves of the devil. But, the voice of the humble priest has the Power of God to say to the sinner, “I forgive you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.” These words terrify the devil and he takes flight. Thus, peace and serenity are restored to the miserable sinner.

Only the priest can bless the love of two people who promise fidelity to each other at the Sacred Altar in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. The new family, the basic unit of civil society, is blessed by Almighty God and takes root in society with the religious benediction of the priest. The priest unites his efforts with those of the parents to educate the offspring of their union in the teaching of the Faith and to prepare them for the reception of the Sacraments.

The priest is with us at the point of our departure from this earth, in death, unto eternity. The poor soul in the throes of death is terrified with fear at the prospect of facing Almighty God. The priest is at his side to forgive him and remind him of the great Mercy of God, giving him the courage to focus all his desires upon Heaven. He blesses his body and directs all the longings of his soul to God. Every day at Holy Mass in the memento for the souls departed, he unites us to the death of Christ and prays for the release of the souls who are suffering in Purgatory.

The obligations of a priest are not only for those moments in life at which time we stand most in need, but they spread to all branches of humanity. Where there is sadness, he may give joy; where there is injustice, righteousness will be defended; he encourages youth to be firm in virtue, obedient to their parents, faithful to duty and be a respecter of other persons. He enlightens souls of their obligations to God, family and humanity. He reminds wealthy persons of the obligations they have to help others and pay a just salary. Thieves and robbers are exposed and decried. He defends fidelity and purity in the people of God. Because his mission is a mission of truth, the priest is the salt of the earth. Truth is not accountable. Truth is One! Only the preaching of the priest enlightens and directs humanity for our short walk in life. In the last twenty centuries, thousands of priests have sacrificed their lives and suffered intense martyrdom to obtain from God the spread of His Kingdom upon Earth.

There is no good work upon earth in which the priest has not offered his help. He performs duties in education, arts and research; he has founded institutes for charity, universities for education, hospitals for the sick and homes for the elderly. Works that civilize missions and enrich cultures are all examples of his love and zeal. Servants of peace and love, these priests continue to give without receiving any recompense in return. Often, they are repaid with hate and cruelty. For his sacrifice, the priest is to be respected. When he falls short of performing his duty through human weakness, still he is due respect. He is the person, who represents Jesus Christ and is clothed in the power of His office. St. Francis said, “If I should meet an angel and a priest, I would first greet the priest, for the angel is a friend of God while the priest is God’s Minister.”

All Christians have a duty to the priest. A society without a priest, will not better itself. Saint Jean Vianney said, “Leave a place without a priest and, after 20 years, man begins to venerate the animals.”

There are two ways to help priests: Pray for them that they will be pious and holy, and pray that Christ will send many priests into His vineyard so that the harvest will be great. Help with funds for priestly vocations and support seminarians in third world countries.

One who gives a priest to the Church, is giving another Christ. The gift of a priest to a nation is the most beautiful gift that can be given.

Pour out, 0 my God, on Thy priests, in all its fullness, the spirit of sacrifice. For it is alike their duty and their glory to be offerings, consumed for the souls of men and to suffer many times distrust, injustice and persecution. May they ponder what they say every day at the Altar: “This is My Body! This is My Blood!” May they dwell on it and apply it to themselves: “I am no longer myself but, so to speak, Jesus and Jesus Crucified!”

O my God, I am on fire with longing that Thy priests may be holy. I earnestly desire that all those consecrated hands which touch Thee may be kindly hands whose touch Thou may find sweet, and that the lips which pronounce at the Altar words so sublime may never be desecrated by anything trivial or unbecoming.

May they live up to the ideal of their high calling! May all men find them, like the Host, simple and great, accessible to all and servants of other men!

O my God, grant that they may take from today’s Mass a thirst for tomorrow’s and that, being themselves full of the gifts they have received, they may have grace to impart them abundantly to others. Amen.

Imprimatur: + LIONEL AUDET, V.G., Quebeci, die 14a septembris 1968

Prayer to St. Jean-Marie Vianney

Almighty and Merciful God, Thou didst make St. Jean-Marie Vianney wonderful by his pastoral zeal and constant prayer and penance. Grant, we beseech Thee that, by his example and intercession, we may be able to win the souls of our brethren for Christ and, together with them, attain to everlasting glory. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

St. Jean-Marie Vianney, Patron of All Parish Priests, Pray for Us!

My Immaculate Heart will be Your Refuge and the Way that Will Lead You to God!

Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution of the Church: evolutionist materialism, atheism, class struggle, negation of the right to own property, rejection of the sacredness of marriage, and robbing parents of the right to educate their children.

SUGGESTED STIPEND DONATION: $5.00 each for Enrollment in the OCTOBER Bouquet of 31 days of Masses for your Sick and your Suffering: PRINT VERY CLEARLY EACH NAME!

GLORY BE TO JESUS CHRIST!

Dear Apostles and Benefactors of the Living Rosary,

Thank you very much for your care and support. The Center of the Living Rosary in the East is growing and we are so very grateful to you. This year, through your encouragement and kindness, our 2016 Calendar is being printed. It features Our Lady of Fatima and Her requests to bring about the Conversion and Consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart. The renovation of the Church is going very well and my bishop is content with our progress. Without your big help, such a huge project would not have been possible. Still, while construction is underway, we have only a tent in which to offer the Holy Mass. When Winter comes, I do not know what we will do. Yet, we have total confidence that the Holy Mother of God will provide for our needs.

Sanctity can only be acquired by diligent use of the graces offered by God, combined with great personal effort. The finest Sermon ever preached was delivered by God as He sat on the mountain slope over 2000 years ago and presented the Beatitudes to the faithful. Speaking to a group of ordinary, illiterate country folks, He told them their vocation in life was to aspire after the holiness of God Himself. “Be ye perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect … Make your first care to find the Kingdom of God.” Christ lived and taught on earth to sanctify souls. It was for this reason that He founded the Church. He desired for all men to be saints. Every Christian is bound to seek after holiness. In our own Age, the call to sanctity is more imperative than ever, as our race seems to be drifting further and further from God. The Blessed Virgin appeared at Fatima to appeal for Reparation. God has raised up St. Thérèse of Lisieux to recruit an army of victim souls. The Popes have called all members of the Church to participate with heroic zeal in the lay apostolate!

The Mystical Body of Christ is starving because so few of its members are nourished with the Holy Eucharist. The Mother of that Body is filled with anguish at the contemplation of her Babe thus suffering. The Holy Rosary can provide the Church with a heart of prayer. Intensity of purpose, unrelaxed effort, unquenchable love, steady discipline, undaunted courage and unflagging perseverance come only from a true spirit of faith. The mark of the Cross is our sign of Hope! The Love of God is the very heart of our sanctity. The Living Rosary is Mary’s Army, engaged today in the deadly battle being waged for the salvation of souls throughout the whole world.

Each and every day, we remember you and your families at the Holy Altar of God. We beg God’s Mercy, Protection and Strength for you in the days to come.

I impart to all of you, my priestly blessing:

+ In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Dear Members of the Living Rosary,Anthony Foster Oduro, our faithful and first representative in the foreign missions, is flat on his back with a severe condition of the neck and spine. Anthony has labored tirelessly for over 20 years with us. We ask your prayers for his health and recovery so that he may return to his post as leader of our National Center in Ghana, Africa.

Marcus has worked with Anthony faithfully for many years. Recently, he was struck down by an unidentified vehicle and his leg was badly broken. This happened after he closed the House of Saint Philomena for the night.

By God’s Grace, the work at the Center is in progress as two young ladies, who are computer literates, are now busy on the job. They have good knowledge of the work and have agreed to help us in our hour of need. They will take charge of the enrollment, packing the parcels to be sent out to the leaders and answering mails at the office.

Anthony shares from his hospital bed: “Oh, how I wish I could be back to start my normal duties! Thy will be done, O my God! I can say that our office is the busiest one on the Basilica premises and we always have people available to teach those who come for instruction, but we are the poorest office in terms of financial support.”

Thank you and may God reward you a million times for your marvelous generosities!

Dear Mrs. Patti Melvin,I would like to inform you that on 16th Aug, 2015 we had celebrated the feast of St. Philomena and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Many. On that day, 65 ULRA members were invested with the Scapulars. I attach some photos and a short video which was taken on that day at Himo Parish.

Please let me know if you received my E-mail which was sent to you on Aug 14, 2015; it was about acknowledgement of the box you sent.

May God bless you!

MYANMAR FLOODING AFFECTS ONE MILLION – 10 August 2015Nearly one million people have now been affected by widespread flooding across Myanmar since June, officials say. The government says up to 100 people have died and 1.2 million acres of rice fields have been destroyed.

Though schools in some areas have reopened, fresh warnings have been issued to people living in the Irrawaddy Delta region.

Myanmar (also known as Burma) always sees flooding in the monsoon season but this is some of the worst in decades.

The floods were made worse by Cyclone Komen, which ploughed through the country last week, causing extensive damage to the deprived Rakhine State. All but two of the 14 States have been affected.

Patrick Fuller, of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yangon, said the situation in many areas remained desperate. People were “returning home to nothing”.

The New Light of Myanmar State-run newspaper said water levels in the Irrawaddy and Ngawun rivers had fallen slightly on Sunday, but remained at risk of bursting their banks.

Residents in low-lying delta areas have been urged to move to higher ground. Aid agencies warned that it will take months or years for people to recover.

Please pray for our people who are your members.

HEART OF JESUS, OUR REFUGE AND SOLACE

The Heavens hide their light for grief, and the world is wrapped in darkness. The Heart of Jesus is opened with a lance that there may be formed His only One, His perfect One, His Virgin Spouse: the Holy Church. Jesus willed that His Heart be opened that we might possess in His Heart a permanent place of refuge and solace, where everything necessary and useful to us would be found. The Wound in His Heart is the Door that remains forever open to us through which those who enter will be saved. It is a refuge for mortals and the Paradise of the Blessed.

Gaze upon the Heart of Jesus whose Love is stronger than death and more vigorous than life. All sweetness is there to arouse our faith, strengthen our hope and enkindle our love. Come and immerse thyself in this Ocean of Love. Hasten to this Fountain of Grace, to this gushing Spring of all consolation. In every peril and difficulty, throw thyself confidently upon the Heart of Jesus!

“Christ’s Heart Is Open That ALL May Enter!” Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

A Bouquet of thirty days of Sacred Masses in Honor, Reparation, Thanksgiving and Petition to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will be offered by Father Ivan Kolodiy in Ukraine, for you and your families, living and departed, throughout the month of September. A lovely Mass card will be mailed out to you for each person you enroll!

Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Dear Apostles and Benefactors of the Living Rosary,

The war in Ukraine continues to wage and our spiritual courage is challenged. If we are to be faithful, it is necessary for us to enter into ourselves. A monthly Retreat is necessary in order for us to persevere: if we are lukewarm, it will re-animate our initial fervor; if we are lax, it will help us to enter again upon our faithfulness to duty. We are pilgrims, journeying on toward our Heavenly Home. Love should spur us to walk the steep, narrow and rugged road that leads to Eternal Life, the happy Home of the Saints. The monthly day of retreat pondering exclusively the end of man, will be a powerful aid to perseverance and the earnest renewal of our Baptismal Vows.

Death will reduce our body to ashes and detach us from all earthly goods, longings and desires. We will be stripped naked. Death will come to all of us! Who is promised one more day? We procrastinate the thought of death, waiting until we can find more time, reduced demands on our resources, and a quiet space for meditation. Who can count on another year or another day? We must be ready NOW! What if, this very hour, we are called to give an account of our lives? At our judgement, we shall not be asked what sins we have committed, but whether we have done the Will of God. Why not do now, what one day we will wish we had done, but it will be too late? The measure of our fidelity upon earth will be the measure of God’s Love for us, and our love for Him, during all Eternity.

Death is certain. Be ready for it. At an hour you do not expect, it will come like a thief in the night. “My children we have but one soul and if that is lost, all is lost; and once lost, it is lost for all Eternity!” St. Teresa

“Behold me, O my God, ready to embrace the death which Thou hast destined for me. From this moment, I accept it and sacrifice to Thee my life in honor of Thy Divine Majesty, in penance for my sins, and to please Thee. I unite the pains and the agony which I must then suffer to the pains and agony which Thou, my Savior, did suffer in Thy Death for me. I accept the death, the time, and the manner, whether suddenly without warning or after a prolonged illness. In everything, I resign myself to Thy Holy Will. Give me strength to suffer all with patience. Thy Death gives me hope! By Thy Most Precious Blood, pardon me all my sins before death comes, and wash away the stains of my guilt.”

Not to ADVANCE is to RETREAT!

Am I ready to die? Have I made the heroic effort necessary to acquire the virtues essential to perfection in this life? Christ commanded me to be perfect as His Heavenly Father is perfect. Do I offer the labors and fatigues of my state in life, all my mortifications and pains of body and soul, in union with the sufferings of my Crucified Savior? In all my anxieties, fears and afflictions, do I seek comfort and consolation at the Foot of the Altar? Is the Sacred Heart of Jesus the object of my most tender love? Do I take time to make reparation for all the outrages suffered by Him in the Adorable Sacrament of the most Holy Altar? Have I a warm, affectionate devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary? Have I unlimited confidence in her, and do I have recourse to her in all my difficulties and spiritual needs? Have I a great love and esteem for the Ten Commandments? Do I fail in them through human respect? Is charity my favorite virtue as it was my Divine Master’s? Do I speak of the faults of others or make rash judgments? Do I blame? Do I murmur? Do I complain? Do I receive humiliations with submission and meekness? Do I cling to my own esteem, prudence and personal views? Do I obey promptly, without delay, discussion or argument? Do I submit equally in that which pleases me and in that which does not? Do I submit myself to all creatures for the love of God? Do I hold my body in esteem as the temple of the Holy Ghost? Do I hold it in honor and refuse to mutilate it, violate its purity, or cremate it? Do I consider myself happy to be called to a life of utter poverty? Am I truly happy to feel its effects in lodging, food, clothing and sickness? Do I trust in God and have no fear of poverty? Do I waste time which is so very precious?

Death is a complete separation of the soul from the body. We will be judged in the room where we die. In that instant of fate, our Eternity is sealed. We can be saints in the daily routine of our lives through Fidelity! In great occasions and in small, let us be faithful. We must die; let us be always prepared! Eternity is long neglected and often forgotten. After millions and millions of years, Eternity remains. Think of Death which is the gate to Eternity! Repent, watch, pray, suffer patiently all evils of this life, and strive courageously for a Happy Eternity.

WE MUST Consider our Rights:

We have a right to humiliations, to be reprimanded, to be disposed of according to God’s Holy Will, to suffer the effects of poverty, to fraternal correction, to be despised and to serve, to the last place, to be looked upon as useless, and to be crucified as was our Savior Jesus Christ!

I pray that you will be successful in thoroughly conquering yourselves in the small daily contradictions which come to you each day. Be faithful in little things, bear your crosses with patience, and you will surely meet with a blessed Eternity. Every day, I remember you and your family at the Sacred Altar. Your intentions, needs and sufferings are given over to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of His Holy Mother. With Mary, you will become capable of a marvelous degree of sanctity and possess unbelievable power over the souls of those you hope to bring to God.

“O most merciful Jesus, Lover of souls, I pray Thee, by the agony of Thy Most Sacred Heart and by the sorrows of Thy Immaculate Mother, cleanse in Thine own Blood the sinners of the whole world who are now in their agony and are to die this day. Amen.”

Heart of Jesus, once in agony, have pity upon the dying!

I impart to all of you, my priestly blessing:

In the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

It is a program of hope!www.childrenoftheeucharist.org

Father Angelo Beda Ison, OFM of Jerusalem will be offering the Sacred Mass in the Holy Land for all who take part in the annual Holy Hour of Reparation and for all who donate in support of this heroic effort to sanctify families and repair for the outrages and blasphemies against the Most Blessed Sacrament and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Dear Mrs. Patti Melvin,I greet you very warmly and lovingly, and apologize for my silence, but you know we continue to be active with the Living Rosary propagation, thanks be to God and to His Holy Mother. On July 30, I received your box of Sacramentals and leaflets in Spanish that you sent to me.

From the picture attached, you will see our members with the St. Philomena statue which is 1 meter tall.

My heart is overflowing with joy at having our Patroness occupy a special place in our church and I had longed for it for many years. We have the privilege of being the first ones in Nicaragua to belong to the Living Rosary Association – our first 7 Rosary groups started in 1996 and we have maintained them.

The Living Rosary is recognized by our Bishop, as a lay group. Fifteen members have gone to their eternal reward and others have left their Catholic religion for different beliefs, and all of them have been replaced by new members. On the third Sunday of each month, a Holy Mass is offered for the intentions of the Living Rosary members and their families.

St. Philomena’s feast is approaching and we always give out to those who attend the festivities something related to her. Last year, you sent us St. Philomena Medals and brochures about her life. The members are very grateful to you for it.

We apologize for asking you to send us the Sacramentals, prayer cards and leaflets without giving a donation but, even if we wanted, we don’t know how to do it and not sure whether it would reach you safely. We would make the donation with much love, even if it is a small amount. We use to ask for 10 Córdobas (Nicaragua’s currency), which is $0.50, but we know that, in the vineyard of the Lord, not all have jobs to give a donation.

We keep you and all who collaborate in the Association, in our prayers. May God and Mamma María protect you and St. Philomena help you! Thank you, Patti, for the attention you pay to our needs. May Our Lord bless you! I will write to you again soon to share about the feast. I am extremely happy because my husband has fallen in love with St. Philomena. Every night, he prays the novena from the leaflet you sent which has her litany composed by the Curé of Ars. Please excuse my letter for not being so neat, I am an elderly person.

Dear Patti Melvin,Sub: TESTIMONY

One Wednesday morning, I was given some money by a lady to prepare food for her friends who were to visit her. The amount was ten thousand Central African Francs (10,000 CFA). I had bought only one item for 1350 Francs and the remaining money was missing. My purse (wallet) fell at a place what the whole town considers being a big venue for all the thieves. I felt so frustrated. I did not have any money anywhere to replace the amount I lost. I decided to stand at a quiet corner of the market and prayed, asking the intercession St. Philomena. It was about 20 minutes later, a boy told me that he saw some boys with an ID card and they said they removed it from a purse they had picked up.

As this boy was explaining to me, another boy just appeared from nowhere and he happened to be one of the boys who had picked up the purse. I asked for the ID card; he removed it from his trouser pocket and gave it to me. He then told me that they had shared the money among themselves. All they could give me was three thousand six hundred and fifty Francs (3,650 CFA). The boy then took me to the place where they had thrown the purse. It was in a big dirt garbage heap. I picked it out and, to my great surprise, I saw the remaining 5,000 Francs notes under the picture of St. Philomena which I always carried in my purse. The boys told me they had emptied the wallet and got only 3,650 Francs. All of us were so amazed that the boys could not see the 5,000 Francs which were under the St. Philomena picture. They all wanted to know who the Saint was and they wanted to have her card. I then had the opportunity to talk to them about Saint Philomena. Thank you very much, St. Philomena!

Saint Philomena, Protectress of the Living Rosary has come to give us:

ARDENT FAITH, PERFECT CHARITY and ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE IN GOD!

Weekly News Flash from the Universal Living Rosary Association of Saint Philomena, Wednesday August 26, 2015

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016

Dear Apostles of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
We are eternally grateful for your generous donation which is a huge help for our missionary efforts in the world today. So many are suffering, dying and giving up the fight, feeling they are outnumbered and surrounded. God help us! Our poor efforts, placed in the Heart of Mary, will obtain miraculous results! May God reward you eternally! We remember you each day in our prayers!
Our lives must be filled to overflowing with the spirit of Mary. We must aspire after Her fathomless humility, complete obedience, seraphic sweetness, ceaseless prayer, perfect patience, celestial wisdom, dauntless love of God, and Her faith. Many try to make Catholic doctrine more acceptable to those outside the Church by keeping Mary in the background. We might as well preach Christianity without Christ, as Redemption without Mary. It has been the Will of God that no coming or giving or manifestation of Christ should be without Her. In the spirit of the first days of creation, the voice of God addresses the Serpent in Eden: “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed; She shall crush thy head and thou shalt lie in wait for Her heel.”
Mary alone is set apart as the co-worker of Salvation. Prophet after Prophet foretold of “The Virgin and Child,” the Queen seated at the right Hand of the King. God thought so much of Mary that He willed to make the Redemption of men dependent upon Her free consent to the Angel Gabriel. And the Word was made Flesh! Mary visits her cousin, Elizabeth, and John the Baptist is sanctified in his mother’s womb. Mary exercises for the first time Her unique prerogative as the administrator of the Treasury of Heaven. She is the dispenser of all graces.
The Public Life of Jesus begins at the Wedding Feast at Cana in obedience to the command of Mary to the stewards: “Do what He tells you.” Water is turned into wine. Christ’s Public Life begins. Jesus’ Public Life ends with Mary at the foot of the Cross. “Behold, thy Mother!” For the Sacrifice of Calvary, Mary provided Victim, Priest, Blood and Altar. The work of Redemption began with Mary and was consummated dependently on Mary. Nothing whatever of the magnificent Treasury of Grace which Christ won for us is imparted, except through Her. Mary is the infallible means of winning the world back to Christ!
O Holy Ghost, I offer Thee the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus,
His Most Precious Blood; the sorrowful, humble, pure, obedient and Immaculate Heart of Mary, to repair for all my offenses and negligences. I consecrate myself unreservedly to Thee. I place all my trust in Thee. Amen.
One with you in the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
PATTI MELVIN, Director – ULRA

Hello Mrs. Patti Melvin,
Sub: The Living Rosary Conferences held in Madurai, India
Greetings in the name of Saint Philomena! My name is Clement Michaelraj, Software Engineer, US Citizen, currently living in my native place, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. When I was in the US, I came to know about Saint Philomena and became a devotee. When I moved to India, I contacted Bro. Joseph Roche, India Animator of the Living Rosary, Chennai, who conducted the Living Rosary conferences for the last 20 years successfully in India and has enrolled thousands and thousands of people into the Living Rosary.
My native place and surrounding villages do not know about Saint Philomena. I invited Brothers Rodriguez and Ruben who are promoters of the Living Rosary in Chennai to hold the conferences in my city. They eagerly agreed and conducted three conferences so far, which were a success. We never heard these messages anywhere before. Their messages include reparation, motivation on family values, Fatima Message, Purgatory, dress code, Saint Philomena’s life history and sculpture, etc. After each conference, I heard the people congratulating these brothers for the messages they delivered.
The Living Rosary Conferences were held on the following days:
On May 31 from 10 am to 5 pm: Fr. Antony Rajan, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church welcomed the gathering of 320 parishioners, and we enrolled 100 members.
On July 18 (5 pm to 9 pm) and July 19 (9 am to 2 pm): My cousin brother, Fr. Jai Joseph, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church welcomed the gathering of 230 parishioners, and 95 enrolled in the Living Rosary.
On August 9 (9 am to 4 pm): Fr. Edwin Raja, Parish Priest of Saint Joseph Church welcomed the gathering of 300 parishioners, and 120 enrolled in the Living Rosary.
My hearty congratulations to these two brothers! We are blessed to have them in India, conducting spiritual meetings. God will bless them abundantly.
We will certainly conduct many more Living Rosary conferences in my place. Attached are some of the pictures.
We request you to pray for us that we may conduct more conferences in our Tamilnadu State and other States, and enroll many more people into Living Rosary.
Thanks to the ULRA for bringing our Blessed Mother Mary’s Message to the people of India.
Regards,
Clement Michaelraj

Dear Patti,
Thank you so much for sending me St. Filomena’s devotional items! I could not believe that you sent me other items which I never expected (such as the Italian booklet)! I want to share this devotion to my friends and family, and persuade them that this little Saint is powerful with God!
The package that you sent arrived on the 4th of August (Saint Jean Marie Vianney!) but I took the items to my parish on the 7th of August (and we know that Friday is Saint Philomena’s martyrdom!).
Thank you for your personal letter that you sent to me. I appreciated so much your words full of love and hope. Less than a month, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and I heard of this disease the day after I wrote the email to you.
I pray every day my assigned Decade and this little Virgin will help me to stay strong. I bless the day that I discovered this Saint and your hard but beautiful work. I always pray for you, for your intentions and for the URLA. God bless you all!
As promised, here are the photos taken at the Church of St. Philip the Apostle in Syracuse with a painting of Santa Filomena.
Immaculate Heart of Mary will be our refuge!

WHO IS THE PRIEST?
At the very center of the crowd is a person often not recognized, (St. Matt. 3:11 – but He whose sandals I am not worthy to bear – St. John the Baptist to the people of Israel). This reproach of Christians is as valid today as it was in the time of Christ for so many lack the most basic respect for the priesthood. How many people recognize his mission, see his sufferings and respect the dignity of his office? They are unmindful of what Christ has told us: “He who hears you, hears Me, and he who persecutes you persecutes Me.”
The priest is the most essential person and deeply needed by all humanity. Only he can truly echo the words of Our Blessed Lord, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” (St. John 14:6)
We must work diligently to properly prize this person who is with us from our birth to our death, in our moments of joy and our moments of suffering; all the key moments of our lives, he is there. God has given him the keys of this earth and, most importantly, the keys of Heaven. The priest is a servant of God, a victim soul. He sacrifices himself for the salvation of souls. Every priest is another Christ!
The priesthood was instituted in Jerusalem on Maundy Thursday night, when Christ gave His Apostles the Holy Eucharist which would be offered until the end of time. The priesthood continues through His words at each Holy Mass: “Do this in commemoration of Me.” Through this pronouncement, He confirmed the priesthood on His Apostles and gave them the power to forgive sins. “Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven; whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” (St. John 20:23)
On the Mount of Olives, Jesus had given them the power to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, to forgive sins, to baptize and to preach justice to all humanity. On the day of His Ascension into Heaven, the Apostles awaited the signal from God to begin their mission upon earth.
THE HOLY PRIESTHOOD
The priest has been given the power to continue the work of our Redemption which is confirmed by the Son of God. He has the special charism of teaching, just as Christ was the infallible Teacher of the Truths of our Catholic Faith, which give light to every soul born into this world. He has the charge to direct us to Heaven.
In the power of his office of duty, the priest feeds souls with the sacred nourishment of supernatural Grace given in the Holy Eucharist. The priest, today, continues the mission and office of the first Apostles. The priests and bishops united together form the Hierarchy of the Church. The Holy Father is the Vicar of Christ upon earth. St. Peter was the first Pope appointed by Christ Himself. His power to rule extends over all bishops, priests, lay apostles and members of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Bishops are appointed by the Pope and they, in turn, choose the parish priests in their diocese. The bishop is the administrator of the parishes in his diocese.
